Borborygmos Enraged is a really sweet creature with a controversial tournament history, all controversies aside he is a super sweet super huge lands loving commander who is a ton of fun to play. This gigantic leader of the Gruul is so much fun to play and this is one of my favorite decks to be featured on the site. This deck has everything you could want in a lands deck and is packed to the brim with combos! Hope you enjoy this one as much as I do without further adieu lets get it!

Why Borborygmos Enraged?

The main reason we chose Borborygmos Enraged is because he is not only a great big creature but helps us get more lands and helps us do a ton of damage with our lands. Borborygmos Enraged is just the full package we are looking for in a lands commander and he is truly the real deal. While the deck is a little weaker without Borborygmos Enraged out we can easily win the game through combos without him. This deck is so much fun!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck! For explanations of the combos please refer to the “Main Win Conditions” section below!

Creatures:

While we don’t have a ton of creature ramp we do have a lot of ways to ramp in our instant and sorcery package, many of our creatures allow us to play extra lands like Oracle of Mul Daya, Azusa, Lost but Seeking and Dryad of the Ilysian Grove all of these are great ways to make our lands better and get more of them!

Solphim, Mayhem Dominus is a really cool card that allows us to double Borborygmos’s damage and this can be great whether we are targeting creatures or players. Titania, Protector of Argoth is a really cool card that lets us make creatures for us sacrificing lands which is something that we can do very easily!

Planeswalkers:

We only have one planeswalker but wow is he good! Wrenn and Six is mostly a way to get key lands back or just to discard to Borborygmos and get some damage in! We don’t typically use Wrenn and Six’s minus but their ult can be helpful with recasting cards like Splendid Reclamation or Scapeshift!

Instants:

One of my favorite instants in the deck is Crop Rotation which is a great way to sacrifice a land and get whatever land you want! Another really cool card is Constant Mists which is another sacrifice outlet but this one is attached to a fog! We also have some good pieces of interaction like Force of Vigor, Beast Within and Return to Nature. We don’t have the most extensive instant package but they are all very impactful!

Sorceries:

We lose a lot of lands whether this be through discard or through sacrifice so cards like Splendid Reclamation and Creeping Renaissance which are both great ways to get our lands back! Triumph of the Hordes is deadly in pretty much any deck but especially in a deck like this with direct damage from our commander being very possible! My favorite sorcery in the deck is Praetor's Counsel which is a really cool card to get our stuff back and not have hand size restrictions anymore!

Artifacts:

Crucible of Worlds and Conduit of Worlds are both great ways to recur our land and plays very well into the cards that let us play extra land drops per turn! Storm Cauldron is a really cool card that will not only annoy your opponents but can be a great way for us to get key lands that we put on the field back into our hands!

Enchantments:

Burgeoning and Exploration are both great ways to get some awesome land drops in early and start ramping like crazy! Sylvan Library is a great card that helps us a ton since we are in green and on average don’t draw a lot of cards! City on Fire with Borborygmos and a bunch of lands in hand can be an instant speed death sentence for our opponents!

Land Base:

Our land base is very atypical since we can put a ton of lands on the field and we also benefit from having lands sacrificed we can run cards like Lotus Field and Wasteland and Strip Mine all of which are not all too common in CEDH. Since we love discarding lands and drawing we are playing every cycling land that we can possibly play. Maze of Ith is a great land that protects us from huge single attackers. Dark Depths can be a really easy way to end the game since we also have a Vesuva and Thespian's Stage!

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Easy to ramp a ton
  • Easy to recur our lands
  • Deck is pretty fast and does not need much to go off

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Weak to graveyard hate
  • Deck is noticeably worse without commander
  • Weak to creature hate

While not all of our combos are game-ending they sure help! And there are an absolute ton of them, below you will find all of our combos explained step by step!

Glint-Horn Buccaneer + Keen Sense

Requires:

All permanents on the battlefield. Keen Sense attached to Glint-Horn Buccaneer. You have a number of cards in hand greater than your maximum hand size.

Steps:

  1. Proceed to your cleanup step, causing you to discard down to your maximum hand size.
  2. Glint-Horn Buccaneer triggers for each card discarded this way.
  3. Resolve the first trigger, dealing 1 damage to each opponent.
  4. Keen Sense triggers, causing you to draw a card.
  5. Repeat from step 3 for each remaining trigger.
  6. After all players pass priority, another cleanup step occurs, causing you to discard down to your maximum hand size.
  7. Repeat from step 2.

Results:

Infinite rummaging. Infinite draw triggers. Infinite self-discard triggers. Near-infinite damage.

Abundance + Borborygmos Enraged + Keen Sense + Grafted Exoskeleton

Requires:

All permanents on the battlefield. Grafted Exoskeleton and Keen Sense attached to Borborygmos. You have a land card in hand. You have at least eleven lands between your hand and library.

Steps:

  1. Activate Borborygmos by discarding a land, dealing three infect damage to an opponent.
  2. Keen Sense triggers, causing you to reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a land card, put it into your hand and put all other cards revealed this way on the bottom of your library.
  3. Repeat.

Results:

Each opponent loses the game. Near-infinite self-discard triggers.

Borborygmos Enraged + Life from the Loam + Surly Badgersaur + Forgotten Cave

Requires:

Forgotten Cave in hand. Life from the Loam in your graveyard. All other permanents on the battlefield. You have at least two additional land cards in hand. R available.

Steps:

  1. Activate Forgotten Cave’s cycling ability by paying R and discarding it.
  2. Surly Badgersaur’s second ability triggers, creating a Treasure token.
  3. Resolve the Forgotten Cave ability, causing you to mill three cards and return Life from the Loam from your graveyard to your hand.
  4. Activate Borborygmos by discarding a land card.
  5. Surly Badgersaur’s second ability triggers, creating a Treasure token.
  6. Resolve the Borborygmos ability, dealing 3 damage to any target.
  7. Repeat from step 4 one additional time.
  8. Activate the three Treasure tokens by tapping and sacrificing them, adding 1RG.
  9. Cast Life from the Loam by paying 1G, returning Forgotten Cave and two other lands from your graveyard to your hand.
  10. Repeat.

Results:

Infinite self-mill. Near-infinite damage. Near-infinite storm count. Near-infinite magecraft triggers. Near-infinite self-discard triggers.

Borborygmos Enraged + Life from the Loam + Surly Badgersaur + Tranquil Thicket

Requires:

Tranquil Thicket in hand. Life from the Loam in your graveyard. All other permanents on the battlefield. You have at least two additional land cards in hand. G available.

Steps:

  1. Activate Tranquil Thicket’s cycling ability by paying G and discarding it.
  2. Surly Badgersaur’s second ability triggers, creating a Treasure token.
  3. Resolve the Tranquil Thicket ability, causing you to mill three cards and return Life from the Loam from your graveyard to your hand.
  4. Activate Borborygmos by discarding a land card.
  5. Surly Badgersaur’s second ability triggers, creating a Treasure token.
  6. Resolve the Borborygmos ability, dealing 3 damage to any target.
  7. Repeat from step 4 one additional time.
  8. Activate the three Treasure tokens by tapping and sacrificing them, adding 1GG.
  9. Cast Life from the Loam by paying 1G, returning Tranquil Thicket and two other lands from your graveyard to your hand.
  10. Repeat.

Results:

Infinite self-mill. Near-infinite damage. Near-infinite storm count. Near-infinite magecraft triggers. Near-infinite self-discard triggers.

Cultivator Colossus + Abundance

Requires:

Cultivator Colossus in hand. Abundance on the battlefield. You have a land card in hand. 4GGG available.

Steps:

  1. Cast Cultivator Colossus by paying 4GGG.
  2. Cultivator Colossus enters the battlefield, putting a land card from your hand onto the battlefield tapped, then revealing cards from the top of your library until you reveal a land card, putting it in your hand and the rest of the revealed cards on the bottom of your library in any order.
  3. Repeat this process, putting a land card from your hand onto the battlefield tapped.
  4. Repeat from step 3.

Results:

Put all land cards from your hand and library onto the battlefield. Order your library.

Azusa, Lost but Seeking + Glacial Chasm + Ramunap Excavator

Requires:

Glacial Chasm in hand or in your graveyard. All other permanents on the battlefield. You are able to play a land this turn. You control at least one additional land.

Steps:

  1. Play Glacial Chasm either from your hand or from your graveyard.
  2. When Glacial Chasm enters the battlefield, its second ability triggers, causing you to sacrifice another land you control.
  3. Pass the turn.
  4. At the beginning of your next upkeep, Glacial Chasm’s cumulative upkeep ability triggers, causing you to sacrifice it.
  5. Play a land except Glacial Chasm from your graveyard.
  6. Repeat.

Results:

Prevent all damage that would be dealt to you.

Azusa, Lost but Seeking + Glacial Chasm + Crucible of Worlds

Requires:

  5. Play any land from your graveyard.
  6. Pass the turn.

  8. Holding priority, activate Zuran Orb by sacrificing Glacial Chasm, causing you to gain two life.
  9. Resolve the Glacial Chasm trigger, doing nothing.

Steps:

  1. Cast Triumph of the Hordes by paying 2GG, giving all creature you control +1/+1, trample, and infect untile end of turn.
  2. Activate Borborygmos by discarding a land, dealing three infect damage to an opponent.
  3. Keen Sense triggers, causing you to reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a land card, put it into your hand and put all other cards revealed this way on the bottom of your library.
  4. Repeat from step 2.

Results:

Each opponent loses the game. Near-infinite self-discard triggers.

Azusa, Lost but Seeking + Glacial Chasm + Ancient Greenwarden

Requires:

Glacial Chasm in hand or in your graveyard. All other permanents on the battlefield. You are able to play a land this turn. You control at least two additional lands.

Steps:

  1. Play Glacial Chasm either from your hand or from your graveyard.
  2. When Glacial Chasm enters the battlefield, its second ability triggers twice, causing you to sacrifice two other lands you control.
  3. Pass the turn.
  4. At the beginning of your next upkeep, Glacial Chasm’s cumulative upkeep ability triggers, causing you to sacrifice it.
  5. Play two lands except Glacial Chasm from your graveyard.
  6. Repeat.

Results:

Prevent all damage that would be dealt to you.

Kodama of the East Tree + Omnath, Locus of Rage + Gruul Turf

Requires:

Gruul Turf in hand. All other permanents on the battlefield.

Steps:

  1. Play Gruul Turf.
  2. Omnath, Kodama of the East Tree, and Gruul Turf trigger.
  3. Resolve the Kodama of the East Tree trigger, not putting anything from your hand onto the battlefield.
  4. Resolve the Gruul Turf trigger, returning it to your hand.
  5. Resolve the Omnath trigger, creating a 5/5 red and green Elemental creature token.
  6. Kodama triggers, putting Gruul Turf onto the battlefield from your hand.
  7. Omnath and Gruul Turf trigger.
  8. Repeat from step 4.

Kodama of the East Tree + Tireless Provisioner + Gruul Turf

Requires:

Gruul Turf in hand. All other permanents on the battlefield. You are able to play a land this turn.

Steps:

  1. Play Gruul Turf.
  2. Gruul Turf enters the battlefield, triggering itself, Tireless Provisioner, and Kodama.
  3. Resolve the Kodama trigger, choosing to put nothing onto the battlefield from your hand.
  4. Resolve the Gruul Turf trigger, returning it from the battlefield to your hand.
  5. Resolve the Tireless Provisioner trigger, creating a Food or a Treasure token.
  6. The Food or Treasure token enters the battlefield, triggering Kodama, putting Gruul Turf from your hand onto the battlefield.
  7. Gruul Turf enters the battlefield, triggering itself and Tireless Provisioner.
  8. Repeat from step 4.

Results:

Infinite Treasure tokens. Infinite Food tokens. Infinite colored mana. Infinite lifegain. Infinite lifegain triggers. Infinite landfall triggers.

Kodama of the East Tree + Tireless Tracker + Gruul Turf

Requires:

Gruul Turf in hand. All other permanents on the battlefield.

Steps:

  1. Play Gruul Turf.
  2. Tireless Tracker, Kodama of the East Tree, and Gruul Turf trigger.
  3. Resolve the Kodama of the East Tree trigger, not putting anything from your hand onto the battlefield.
  4. Resolve the Gruul Turf trigger, returning it to your hand.
  5. Resolve the Tireless Tracker trigger, creating a Clue token.
  6. Kodama triggers, putting Gruul Turf onto the battlefield from your hand.
  7. Tireless Tracker and Gruul Turf trigger.
  8. Repeat from step 4.

Results:

Infinite landfall triggers. Infinite Clue tokens.

Kodama of the East Tree + Scute Swarm + Gruul Turf

Requires:

Gruul Turf in hand. All other permanents on the battlefield.

Steps:

  1. Play Gruul Turf.
  2. Kodama of the East Tree, Gruul Turf, and each Scute Swarm trigger.
  3. Resolve the Kodama of the East Tree trigger, not putting anything from your hand onto the battlefield.
  4. Resolve the Gruul Turf trigger, returning it to your hand.
  5. Resolve each Scute Swarm trigger, creating a token copy of Scute Swarm if you control six or more lands, or a 1/1 green Insect creature token otherwise.
  6. Kodama of the East Tree triggers for each token that entered the battlefield.
  7. Resolve all but one of the Kodama of the East Tree triggers, not putting anything from your hand onto the battlefield.
  8. Resolve the last Kodama of the East Tree trigger, putting Gruul Turf onto the battlefield from your hand.
  9. Scute Swarm and Gruul Turf trigger.
  10. Repeat from step 4.

  3. Resolve the Kodama of the East Tree trigger, not putting anything from your hand onto the battlefield.
  4. Resolve the Gruul Turf trigger, returning it to your hand.
  5. Resolve the Rampaging Baloths trigger, creating a 4/4 green Beast creature token.
  6. Kodama triggers, putting Gruul Turf onto the battlefield from your hand.
  7. Rampaging Baloths and Gruul Turf trigger.

Requires:

All permanents on the battlefield. You have a basic Forest in hand. You are able to play a land this turn.

Steps:

  1. Play a basic Forest card from your hand.
  2. Kodama and Omnath’s first ability trigger.
  3. Resolve the Kodama trigger, choosing to put nothing onto the battlefield from your hand.
  4. Holding priority, activate the basic Forest by tapping it, adding G.
  5. Resolve the Omnath trigger, creating a 5/5 Elemental creature token.
  6. When the Elemental enters the battlefield, Kodama triggers.
  7. Holding priority, activate Living Twister’s second ability by paying G, returning the Forest from the battlefield to your hand.
  8. Resolve the Kodama trigger, putting the Forest onto the battlefield from your hand.
  9. When the Forest enters the battlefield, Omnath triggers.
  10. Repeat from step 4.

Results:

Kodama of the East Tree + Field of the Dead + Gruul Turf

Requires:

Gruul Turf in hand. All other permanents on the battlefield. You have not played a land this turn. You control at least seven differently named lands.

Steps:

  1. Play Gruul Turf.
  2. Field of the Dead, Kodama of the East Tree, and Gruul Turf trigger.
  3. Resolve the Kodama of the East Tree trigger, not putting anything onto the battlefield from your hand.
  4. Resolve the Gruul Turf trigger, returning it to your hand.
  5. Resolve the Field of the Dead trigger, creating a 2/2 black Zombie creature token.
  6. Kodama of the East Tree triggers, putting Gruul Turf onto the battlefield from your hand.
  7. Field of the Dead and Gruul Turf trigger.
  8. Repeat from step 4.

  3. Resolve the Kodama of the East Tree trigger, not putting anything from your hand onto the battlefield.
  4. Resolve the Guildless Commons trigger, returning it to your hand.
  5. Resolve the Omnath trigger, creating a 5/5 red and green Elemental creature token.
  6. Kodama triggers, putting Guildless Commons onto the battlefield from your hand.
  7. Omnath and Guildless Commons trigger.

  3. Resolve the Kodama trigger, choosing to put nothing onto the battlefield from your hand.
  4. Holding priority, activate the basic Forest by tapping it, adding G.
  5. Resolve the Tireless Provisioner trigger, creating a Treasure or a Food artifact token.
  6. When the Treasure or Food token enters the battlefield, Kodama triggers.
  7. Holding priority, activate Living Twister’s second ability by paying G, returning the Forest from the battlefield to your hand.
  8. Resolve the Kodama trigger, putting the Forest onto the battlefield from your hand.
  9. When the Forest enters the battlefield, Tireless Provisioner triggers.
  10. Repeat from step 4.

Results:

Infinite Treasure tokens. Infinite Food tokens. Infinite colored mana. Infinite lifegain. Infinite lifegain triggers. Infinite landfall triggers.

Kodama of the East Tree + Living Twister + Rampaging Baloths

Requires:

All permanents on the battlefield. You have a basic Forest in hand. You are able to play a land this turn.

Steps:

  1. Play a basic Forest card from your hand.
  2. Kodama and Rampaging Baloths trigger.
  3. Resolve the Kodama trigger, choosing to put nothing onto the battlefield from your hand.
  4. Holding priority, activate the basic Forest by tapping it, adding G.
  5. Resolve the Rampaging Baloths trigger, creating a 4/4 Beast creature token.
  6. When the Beast enters the battlefield, Kodama triggers.
  7. Holding priority, activate Living Twister’s second ability by paying G, returning the Forest from the battlefield to your hand.
  8. Resolve the Kodama trigger, putting the Forest onto the battlefield from your hand.
  9. When the Forest enters the battlefield, Rampaging Baloths triggers.
  10. Repeat from step 4.

Kodama of the East Tree + Living Twister + Scute Swarm

Requires:

All permanents on the battlefield. You have a basic Forest in hand. You are able to play a land this turn.

Steps:

  1. Play a basic Forest card from your hand.
  2. Kodama and each Scute Swarm you control trigger.
  3. Resolve the Kodama trigger, choosing to put nothing onto the battlefield from your hand.
  4. Holding priority, activate the basic Forest by tapping it, adding G.
  5. Resolve the first Scute Swarm trigger, creating either a 1/1 Insect creature token or a token copy of Scute Swarm.
  6. When the creature token enters the battlefield, Kodama triggers.
  7. Holding priority, activate Living Twister’s second ability by paying G, returning the Forest from the battlefield to your hand.
  8. Resolve the Kodama trigger, putting the Forest onto the battlefield from your hand.
  9. When the Forest enters the battlefield, Scute Swarm triggers.
  10. Repeat from step 4.

Results:

Infinite creature tokens. Infinite ETB. Infinite landfall triggers.

Kodama of the East Tree + Tireless Tracker + Guildless Commons

Requires:

Guildless Commons in hand. All other permanents on the battlefield.

Steps:

  1. Play Guildless Commons.
  2. Tireless Tracker, Kodama of the East Tree, and Guildless Commons trigger.
  3. Resolve the Kodama of the East Tree trigger, not putting anything from your hand onto the battlefield.
  4. Resolve the Guildless Commons trigger, returning it to your hand.
  5. Resolve the Tireless Tracker trigger, creating a Clue token.
  6. Kodama triggers, putting Guildless Commons onto the battlefield from your hand.
  7. Tireless Tracker and Guildless Commons trigger.
  8. Repeat from step 4.

Results:

Infinite landfall triggers. Infinite Clue tokens.

Kodama of the East Tree + Tireless Provisioner + Guildless Commons

Requires:

Guildless Commons in hand. All other permanents on the battlefield. You are able to play a land this turn.

Steps:

  1. Play Guildless Commons.
  2. Guildless Commons enters the battlefield, triggering itself, Tireless Provisioner, and Kodama.
  3. Resolve the Kodama trigger, choosing to put nothing onto the battlefield from your hand.
  4. Resolve the Guildless Commons trigger, returning it from the battlefield to your hand.
  5. Resolve the Tireless Provisioner trigger, creating a Food or a Treasure token.
  6. The Food or Treasure token enters the battlefield, triggering Kodama, putting Guildless Commons from your hand onto the battlefield.
  7. Guildless Commons enters the battlefield, triggering itself and Tireless Provisioner.
  8. Repeat from step 4.

Results:

Infinite Treasure tokens. Infinite Food tokens. Infinite colored mana. Infinite lifegain. Infinite lifegain triggers. Infinite landfall triggers.

Kodama of the East Tree + Field of the Dead + Guildless Commons

Requires:

Guildless Commons in hand. All other permanents on the battlefield. You have not played a land this turn. You control at least seven differently named lands.

Steps:

  1. Play Guildless Commons.
  2. Field of the Dead, Kodama of the East Tree, and Guildless Commons trigger.
  3. Resolve the Kodama of the East Tree trigger, not putting anything onto the battlefield from your hand.
  4. Resolve the Guildless Commons trigger, returning it to your hand.
  5. Resolve the Field of the Dead trigger, creating a 2/2 black Zombie creature token.
  6. Kodama of the East Tree triggers, putting Guildless Commons onto the battlefield from your hand.
  7. Field of the Dead and Guildless Commons trigger.
  8. Repeat from step 4.

Results:

Infinite creature tokens. Infinite landfall triggers. Infinite ETB.

Kodama of the East Tree + Living Twister + Tireless Tracker

  6. When the Clue token enters the battlefield, Kodama triggers.
  7. Holding priority, activate Living Twister’s second ability by paying G, returning the Forest from the battlefield to your hand.
  8. Resolve the Kodama trigger, putting the Forest onto the battlefield from your hand.
  9. When the Forest enters the battlefield, Tireless Tracker triggers.
  10. Repeat from step 4.

Infinite Clue tokens. Infinite landfall triggers.

Kodama of the East Tree + Scute Swarm + Guildless Commons

Requires:

Guildless Commons in hand. All other permanents on the battlefield.

Steps:

  1. Play Guildless Commons.
  2. Kodama of the East Tree, Guildless Commons, and each Scute Swarm trigger.
  3. Resolve the Kodama of the East Tree trigger, not putting anything from your hand onto the battlefield.
  4. Resolve the Guildless Commons trigger, returning it to your hand.
  5. Resolve each Scute Swarm trigger, creating a token copy of Scute Swarm if you control six or more lands, or a 1/1 green Insect creature token otherwise.
  6. Kodama of the East Tree triggers for each token that entered the battlefield.
  7. Resolve all but one of the Kodama of the East Tree triggers, not putting anything from your hand onto the battlefield.
  8. Resolve the last Kodama of the East Tree trigger, putting Guildless Commons onto the battlefield from your hand.
  9. Scute Swarm and Guildless Commons trigger.
  10. Repeat from step 4.

In conclusion this deck may not make you any friends but it sure is a ton of fun to play! This deck is fast efficient and just a damage machine.
