Syr Ginger is a really cool commander, the primary gameplan in our deck is to combo off and make infinitely big creatures with our infinite mana, but when we have sac outlets and ways to constantly recur artifacts we can also go on the beatdown plan with Syr Ginger! Syr Ginger is a ton of fun to play and also well positions us against aggressive strategies since we can gain a ton of life through their ability and cycle through the deck when we buff her! Syr Ginger is the first commander we are building for Wilds of Eldraine and they are a ton of fun to play! Without further adieu lets get it!

5 Helpful Upgrades:

Since we are a budget deck there is of course cards that were left out of the list, below are the first 5 cards I would recommend you add if you decide to upgrade this list!

There is no particular order to these cards, pick up what you can, when you can. This is a great starting guide to cards that will absolutely make the deck better but did not make it into the budget version dude to costs

Why Syr Ginger, Meal Ender?

The main reason we chose Syr Ginger is how well they interact with a bunch of our combos so that when we make infinite mana or infinite sacrifice triggers we can infinitely scry and pump up Syr Ginger. While this is a different approach then a lot of Syr Ginger deck’s it is still a great fast and efficient deck even in its budget form! Syr Ginger is the real deal and one of the coolest cards from the new set!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck! For explanations of the combos please refer to the “Main Win Conditions” section below!

Creatures:

The two most important creatures in our deck are Hangarback Walker and Walking Ballista both of which are great ways to get huge creatures and end games when we have infinite mana! Cathodion is a cool card that is a super beneficial creature since we trigger Syr Ginger and get some mana out of the deal, a true win-win situation for our deck! Since we almost never try to win through combat cards like Silent Arbiter really only hurt our opponents and stop aggressive strategies or stompy strategies from hitting us too hard! If we do ever have to go the combat route to end a game Steel Overseer is a great way to constantly buff up our creatures! Arcbound Crusher is a great way to buff up every time an artifact enters and when Crusher dies that goes straight to Syr Ginger!

Planeswalkers:

Ugin, the Ineffable is a really sweet planeswalker who drastically reduces every card in our deck and is such a good card even if it is only around for 1 or 2 turns! We rarely use Ugin’s plus ability but his minus is a great removal spell! Karn, Living Legacy is a really cool card who can get us some mana, help us cycle through the deck and if we can ult him can be an effective way to end the game on its own!

Instants:

Our instant package is pretty small, there is not a ton of options for solely colorless spells! Not of This World is a really cool protection spell that can sometimes be free! Scour from Existence is a card that is expensive but since we can easily produce a ton of mana we can easily cast this and it is one of our best pieces of removal! Desecrate Reality is a really good card that lets us exile the best thing our opponent has and get a permanent back! Warping Wail is a great card that we mostly use as a counterspell but occasionally will use the other modes if the situation warrants!

Sorceries:

We only have two sorceries but they are both super impactful! All Is Dust is an insane board wipe in our deck since it doesn’t affect us at all! We can effectively destroy all of our opponents stuff while we stay at full strength! All is Dust is an absolute bomb in this deck. Introduction to Annihilation is a good piece of removal that does give our opponents a card but this is a fair trade for a spell we can cast really early if needed!

Artifacts:

We are an artifact deck so of course we have a ton of artifacts! Sol Ring and Basalt Monolith are both early and great mana sources and in the case of monolith has some serious combo potential within our deck! Ashnod's Altar is a really great card that allows us to have a sac outlet for some of our creatures which is a great way to get some mana and trigger Syr Ginger! One of the most unique artifacts in our deck is Portcullis which will absolutely frustrate your opponents and possibly you when it takes away a bunch of creatures! Semblance Anvil is a great way to get a huge discount on a bunch of our cards! Tamiyo's Journal is a card draw engine and a great way to tutor through our deck!

Land Base:

We dont need a super involved land base since we are in colorless but we do have a ton of great lands like Shrine of the Forsaken Gods that allow us to get a mana advantage! Sanctum of Ugin is a basic colorless land with a bunch of upside! We are a big mana deck so of course we have Tron, while we dont have a ton of ways to assemble this we can draw into pretty easily!

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Easy to make infinite mana / combo off
  • Easy to draw cards and go through deck
  • Syr Ginger can help us gain life against aggressive strategies

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Not much interaction
  • Weak to artifact hate
  • Very weak to countermagic

Main Win Conditions:

We are a combo deck at heart typically looking to make infinite mana and cast a Hangarback Walker or Walking Ballista once we establish infinite mana especially in the case of Hangarback we can use a sac outlet to scry through our whole deck, combine this with some draw effects and we can easily find a ballista! Below you will find all of the combos in our deck explained!
