“You Owe Me A Pizza.”
Art:Cloud, Ex-SOLDIER by Justyna Dura
Precons are an amazing introduction to the format and a lot of fun to play out of the box, but with so many different cards and commanders present in the format if you arent playing at a table full of other precon level decks your precon can feel extremely outpaced and it can almost give you a feeling that you cant win, luckily for us we have five budget upgrades that can cut the chaff and improve the deck greatly! While this won’t allow you to sit at CEDH tables, it should make your experience against custom lower power decks a lot smoother! This article is mostly meant as a quick and easy list to grab some easy and cheap pickups to improve the deck immediately. Cloud allows us to play like a true Voltron commander, going all in and big swinging our way to victory! Cloud can be really strong since they are hard to kill and also provide some very strong mana production, having additional mana production can help us accelerate our game plan an absolute ton. For this list, I focused on cards that make buffing up Cloud easier and provide protection for him and our equipment. We don’t have to break the bank to make this deck a lot better! Without further ado, let’s get it!

Limit Break Precon base list!
The Limit Break Precon is a pretty cool deck that focuses mostly on Voltron and getting tot he lucky number seven, being able to hit seven unlocks a lot of synergies, while i don’t care a ton about the lucky number seven aspect of the precon it can be utilized pretty easily, i tend to focus much more on the Voltron side of this and making equipment and buffing up Cloud much easier. Let’s get into the cheap upgrades that can make this deck a lot better without breaking the bank!
Add:
Forge Anew is a cheap card that i am quite surprised isn’t included in the precon, it works extremely well within the deck, being able to equip cards like Colossus Hammer for free is really strong and can allow us to be a true force to be reckoned with in combat. This is a great card for the deck and provides a ton of utility.
Cut:
We have quite a bit of card draw through the deck and really don’t have a ton of trouble with an empty hand, because of that, I cut Furious Rise. I don’t think this card is that great in this deck. It’s an easy cut, and it’s really not missed.
Add:
While Gilgamesh is quite expensive at six mana, its effect is truly insane, and with so much equipment in this deck, we can equip the true best of the best that we get off the top. It’s very nice to have card selection and filtering within this deck. While it’s unrealistic to expect us to hit all six, in testing, I was able to hit quite a bit of equipment in one go, a very strong card for the deck that can truly flip the game.
Cut:
Yuffie isn’t a bad card, but I don’t think it’s worth having in this deck. Stealing non-creature artifacts in decks against other decks just really isn’t that good. It would be pretty good if we could consistently face Voltron decks, but that is quite unrealistic. I think this is a very easy cut for the deck.
Add:
Beatrix is another card that is quite expensive but if Cloud or one of our other Voltron targets that had a ton of equipment on them gets destroyed Beatrix is a quick and easy way for us to recover and get back into the game, being able to get back into the game is something that Naya decks often arent very good at and being able to have that even at six mana is very strong.
Cut:
We have enough card draw present in the deck, and truthfully, helping our opponents is not something that we want to do; this is just not worth the slot. There are better draw options within the deck.
Add:
This equipment really is the true package and doesn’t break the bank to pick up, while its only a small buff for pretty cheap being able to give our Voltron creature trample and produce a ton of treasure tokens can allow us to pop off really quickly and accelerate our gameplan a ton, trample allows us to get very easy commander damage kills as well. The Reaver Cleaver is a huge bomb in this deck and can really put a ton of pressure on our opponents.
Cut:
We are in Naya, and we truthfully don’t need the ramp; this is just the waste of an equipment slot. We have much better equipment at our disposal, and we truthfully don’t need scope for this deck; it’s a precon card, and I understand why it was included, but we just don’t need it.
Add:
If a creature is about to be killed or if we are about to lose our creature to a bad combat situation Inventory Management allows us to recover nicely and switch all of our big buffs and equipment to another creature, this is an invaluable effect for our deck, it having split second is extremely good as well and can allow us to pull this off even if we are in the face of multiple control decks that want to control the stack.
Cut:
We are not a removal heavy deck and really don’t need this card, Meteor does fit into the lucky number seven part of this deck but since we are far more focused on the Voltron aspect of this deck its just not worth it, overall this card is not worth it at all for our deck and it is a very easy cut for the deck.
Conclusion:
I like the Limit Break deck a lot; it’s a fun precon, and even with a few cheap upgrades, we can make this deck a lot better. I feel like Cloud lends itself very well to the Voltron playstyle. Stay tuned, as after I finish all of the budget upgrades, I am going to do all of the non-budget upgrades as well. Even with a few upgrades, this is a great deck. I hope you all enjoyed this as much as I did. Thanks for reading to the end.
