Art: Card not found by Lius Lasahido
Welcome to the first entry in Brewed CEDH:
Today’s deck is Mono White Stax utilizing Elesh Norn, March of the Machines. While this may not make you the most popular player it will sure be fun for you! Stax is a very old and popular archetype that focuses on denying your opponents resources. This deck is by no means the best CEDH deck you could play but is a fun shell to mess around with and get some CEDH win’s. This could even be a budget deck if you take some of the higher end cards out which is really convenience more than anything else.
The Deck:
CEDH Heliod STAX
Why Heliod, The Sun Crowned?
I chose Heliod because he is our main method of winning, with him in the command zone all we need is Ballista and we have the win. Stax also allows us to play the long and grindy game if needed, although if we line up against 3 other combo decks ballista is the first thing we are grabbing. Being able to go off as early as turn 3 is right around the time we want to be doing it, since we only need two cards its very easy to have a stax piece like Card not found and just wait till it comes back, we dont need many resources to finish the game up.
Deck Overview
As a Stax deck are main goal is resource denial and punishment and a slow grindy win. We accomplish that with cards like Card not found and Card not found just to name a few. This deck is Jam packed with resource denial and are main goal is to stop everyone from doing everything and closing out games with Card not found as a backup and the main combo of Card not found and Card not found. We may not be the fastest deck but we make up for it by denying some of the most powerful attributes of the quick combo decks. We have various hate cards in the form of Card not found,Card not found,Card not found,Card not found. We also play Card not found and Card not found to protect our combo. The main goal is to deny as much as possible until we can get Ballista/Heliod. Our main method of getting ballista is through Card not found and Card not found. Although in testing there was a stax vs stax matchup where are flying creatures helped us edge the game out.
Strengths of the Deck:
- Very simple Land base means that we can cast most everything with relative ease
- Strong against powerful effects like searching
- Relatively low casting cost of most cards, not as effected by our mana denial
- Various protection methods cards to protect our combo
- With one of our pieces always ready, the combo is very easy to pull off.
- Ready to go quick or slow the game down as needed
Weaknesses of the Deck:
- Being Mono-{W} limits our stax ability as we miss out on some of the good stax cards outside of {W}
- Early turns can be a little slow, without a good draw we may struggle against turn 1-3 combos / glass cannon decks
- Difficult to rebuild if stopped early
- Will struggle against extremely High Powered CEDH decks

Conclusion:
Stax may not make you any friends but it will make you have some fun, probably not anyone else though. Having one of 2 combo pieces in the command zone not only lets us be very quick if needed but it also lets us go grindy if we need to. We need so little to win that limiting our opponents can set us up for an easy win.
Thanks for reading to the end!
Would love to hear your feedback on the deck!
