Boros Guildmage Humans Aggro Pauper EDH

“Almost dead yesterday, maybe dead tomorrow, but alive, gloriously alive, today.”

Art:Boros Guildmage by Paolo Parente

Boros Guildmage is a super fun commander who makes all of our creatures better in combat, whether we are getting damage into opponents creatures with First Strike and make key creatures swing immediately by giving them haste! Beyond just our commander we have a bunch of aggressive creatures and a ton of ways to buff them up and get huge swings in and really put some pressure on our opponents! Without further adieu lets get it!

Why Boros Guildmage?

Boros Guildmage is a super sweet commander who is not the strongest attacker but is the perfect card to make all of our attackers better! Being able to give a creature Haste or First Strike on a whim is a really strong effect that can be a nightmare for our opponents when we are going to combat or when they are! Boros Guildmage is a really strong card that doesn’t get nearly enough play in Pauper EDH!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck! As well as highlighting some of my favorite cards in the deck!

Creatures:

We have a ton of humans and a bunch of payoffs for him, but naturally we do have a few non-humans so lets talk about them! Bloodcrazed Neonate is such a strong aggressive creature that we absolutely had to include it! Crimson Fleet Commodore is a great attacker / blocker that also gives us the monarch! Eagles of the North is another really strong buff or a great way to get a plains out of the deck! Witty Roastmaster is my favorite non-human card since we basically have a second copy of Impact Tremors. We have an absolute ton of sweet humans so let’s highlight some of the best! Perimeter Sergeant and Riot Ringleader make nearly all of the cards in our deck better! Thundersong Trumpeter is not only a human but is a great way to prevent an attack or take a blocker out of combat, this card is busted against Voltron strategies!

Instants:

Our instant package is where our removal lies and truthfully there isn’t an absolute ton of it, but what we do have is effective! Abrade, Crib Swap and Generous Gift which are all great pieces of removal that are pretty low-cost! We also have some mass board buffs that help a ton with closing out games like Rally the Righteous, Rally the Peasants and Pack Attack which are great ways to make our full but small board pretty deadly! If we go against another aggro deck or a big attack is coming our way we can use Riot Control which is a strong piece of lifegain and basically a Fog effect!

Sorceries:

Our sorcery package is where a lot of our token generation lies with sweet token producers like Hordeling Outburst, Krenko's Command and Sworn Companions which are all cheap and efficient cards that help increase our board presence! We also have some pretty cool buffs like Silverflame Ritual and Inspiring Roar which are really strong mass buffs!

Artifacts:

We have a bunch of on-color mana rocks like Boros Signet and Marble Diamond / Fire Diamond but it is our non mana-rock artifacts that have huge effects! Spare Supplies and Jalum Tome help an absolute ton with one of Boros biggest weaknesses which is card draw! One of my favorite cards has to be included in Wedding Invitation which is a great card that allows us to get a card and make a creature unblockable which is a perfect way to finish off an opponent!

Enchantments:

Impact Tremors is the best enchantment in our deck and is a great way to convert all of our creatures entering into damage! We also have Omen of the Sun which works perfectly in conjunction with Impact Tremors and are great attackers as well! Hammerhand is a really cool card that can take a key blocker out of combat and is a cheap card with a small buff! Bonds of Faith is a really cool card that we can use offensively or defensively in either application this card is strong!

Land Base:

Some of you may be asking why we are running 34 lands in an aggro deck! And honestly that is a valid question, in testing I found that 34 lands allowed us to operate consistently and have enough land drops to be able to consistently activate Boros Guildmages ability! But on to our landbase which has some extra draw lands like Dwarven Mine, The Fair Basilica and The Autonomous Furnace. We also have Desert which can be a great way to tip combat into our favor! Forge of Heroes is a really cool land that makes Boros Guildmage a little bit better of an attacker!

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Can kill opponents pretty quickly
  • Decent amount of card draw
  • Boros Guildmage can come down early and is really powerful

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Weak to creature hate
  • Weak to board wipes / destruction it can be hard to rebuild
  • Not a ton of interaction

Deck Stats:

Sample Hands:

Main Win Conditions:

There are no infinite combos or loops in the deck we are an aggro deck through and through and we fill up our board as quick as we can and we sing early and often! We have a bunch of cards that help with combat including our commander as well as a bunch of creatures and spells that buff! These humans hit hard and love to attack!

Conclusion:

Boros Guildmage is the perfect commander for a really fun Human Aggro deck! We are able to overwhelm the board and our opponents with our relatively low casting cost and a bunch of buffs! We are able to address some of the issues Boros has as we do have a few decent ways to draw cards in the deck! Thanks for reading to the end and thanks for all of your support!
