Why Grothama, All-Devouring?

Grothama is a very interesting and unique green commander allowing us to get loads of card advantage early and often. Although its not the main wincon forcing opponents to draw and discard a large portion of their deck is a great secondary wincon as well. Grothama is also a well stat’ed creature who is huge and can give us loads of card draw in green. With indestructible effects we can draw huge cards and make gigantic creatures.

Deck Overview:

While this is a fight deck we also have a stompy package as well, our main goal is to get our cards as big as possible and attack, utilizing cards like Spearbreaker Behemoth to give Grothama indestructible. Another great card in the deck is Stuffy Doll with stuffy doll we can fight Grothama and deal that damage to a player. This is a great way to negate lifegain as well as a great way to deal damage before attacking. The ramp package is strong within the deck with many ramp spells like Explosive Vegetation, Kodama's Reach and Cultivate just to name a few. We are a stompy style deck with a fight theme so big creatures and ramp early, we can utilize our fight cards to take out opponents creatures as well as draw a lot of cards with Grothama. As far as combo potential though we are not infinite we can generate a crazy amount of mana and utilize Craterhoof Behemoth and Temur Sabertooth we can use this two cast craterhoof up to 2 or 3 a times a turn. We can also one turn kill our opponents with cards like Berserk and Triumph of the Hordes. Our creatures are naturally pretty large so we are an attack threat on most turns of the game and with cards like Zopandrel, Hunger Dominus allowing us to have huge attacks with only a few creatures. If we can establish a large board state and get a lot of creatures are attack and our multiple effects to give trample can be devastating. We may not be strong against combo and spellslinger decks but this deck is a great in a creature meta.

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Eliminate opponents creatures through fighting effects
  • A lot of card draw through Grothama
  • Large ramp package allowing us to cast large threats early

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Weak against Combo / Spellslinger Decks
  • Can struggle if facing large amounts of creature destruction
  • Propaganda effects slow down our gameplan

Deck Stats:

Sample Hands:

Main Win Conditions:

Our main win condition is through attacking and killing our opponents creatures by fighting. Some of the positive interactions / combos we have are Grothama, All-Devouring + Stuffy Doll. as well as Mossbridge Troll + Grothama, All-Devouring.

Conclusion:

In conclusion I think Grothama is a fun take on a standard green stompy / ramp deck which is well positioned in a meta of other creature decks. Beware if facing nothing but spellslingers, Grothama is a fun not that expensive deck!

Thanks for reading to the end!
