Charging Tuskodon Voltron Pauper EDH

“Hold on to your butts”

Art:Charging Tuskodon by Izzy

Charging Tuskodon is a really sweet commander that is the king of commander damage! Not only can Tuskodon come out a little earlier with our artifact ramp he has trouble and doubles damage when he hits players, and that is still combat damage that makes commander damage kills really easy to do and that is the main focus of our deck buffing Tuskodon as much as we can and swinging for the fences! This deck is pretty versatile even though it is mono-red and is also a ton of fun to play! Without further adieu lets get it!

Why Charging Tuskodon?

The main reason that we chose Tuskodon is how easy it is to kill opponents with him. They are already a pretty great creature at 5 for a 4/4 with trample but with the double damage to players when dealing damage to them can make commander damage kills happen very quickly. Combine this with a large suite of auras and equipment’s to make Tuskodon more evasive and bigger and you have a recipe to win and end games pretty quickly!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck!

Creatures:

We dont have a ton of creatures, but the ones we do have are pretty impactful, Champion of the Flame and Kazuul's Toll Collector are both alternate win-con cards if we have issues with keeping Tuskodon on the field. Iron Myr is just a helpful piece of ramp that can come down early.

Reckless Fireweaver is a great way to deal damage to our opponents since we have an absolute ton of artifacts! Cragsmasher Yeti is a great card to mountaincycle or hard cast since the backup ability can be great when applied to one of our win-con creatures.

Instants:

For direct damage to our opponents or our creatures we have classics like Lightning Bolt and Galvanic Blast. We also have a bunch of ways to draw cards like Faithless Looting, Cathartic Reunion and Thrill of Possibility. Breath Weapon and Fiery Cannonade are both really strong against aggressive strategies or token style builds which feature a lot of smaller creatures!

Sorceries:

We have some pretty sweet sorceries that help round out our gameplan like Assault Strobe which we can give Tuskodon double-strike until end of turn. Go for Blood is a great way to fight a creature and since Tuskodon can get pretty big this can kill pretty much any creature in the format. Magmatic Chasm is a great card that makes it so Tuskodon can only be blocked by creatures with flying, against the right deck this can be a very strong card. Another really cool card is Coronation of Chaos not only can we make an opponents creatures not be able to block our creatures but we can Goad them as well!

Artifacts:

We are primarly a voltron style deck so of course we have some artifacts, to start we have artifact ramp like Arcane Signet, Fire Diamond and Fellwar Stoneand Commander's Sphere. We also have some really sweet equipment like Armory of Iroas, Golem-Skin Gauntlets and Dueling Rapier all of these can really help us to buff up Tuskodon and get some more damage in. Most of our artifact package is a ton of equipment that makes Tuskodon bigger and more evasive!

Enchantments:

Our enchantment package is full of some pretty sweet auras and ways to make Tuskodon more evasive like Goblin War Drums which can give our creatures menace which we will never say no too! One of our best auras is Claws of Valakut is a great card that can really buff Tuskodon up. Firebreathing is a great aura that in the late-game we can devote almost all of our mana to activate and get our damage up! Battle Plan is another great card that we can use to buff Tuskodon every turn!

Land Base:

Our land base is pretty simple since we are in mono-red but we do have some pretty cool nonbasics like Desert of the Fervent, Forgotten Cave and Smoldering Crater which are all great cycling lands that allow us to draw a card in lieu of getting flooded out!

We also have a couple lands that buff creatures on ETB like Looming Spires and Teetering Peaks which are both great ways to buff Tuskodon and get some more damage in!

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Charging Tuskodon can very easily kill opponents
  • Decent amount of card draw
  • Overall low mana cost making the later turns we can cast multiple spells in a turn

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Weak to single target removal
  • Weak to artifact hate
  • Weak to heavy stack interaction

Deck Stats:

Sample Hands:

Main Win Conditions:

Our main win condition is buffing Charging Tuskodon, Champion of the Flame or Kazuul's Toll Collector and swinging for our opponents. It is very helpful that we have multiple options but Tuskodon is our main win condition. This deck has no loops of infinite combos and is all combat!

Conclusion:

In conclusion Charging Tuskodon makes for a really sweet commander for an awesome mono-red voltron style deck. This deck is fast, efficient and powerful and we can end games really quickly. This deck is a ton of fun for any combat lover or any mono-red aggressive strategy lover. Hope you enjoyed, don’t forget you can always request a commander for PDH, CEDH, Budget EDH and EDH on our twitter or on our discord!
