Duskfang Mentor Lifelink Buffs Pauper EDH

“May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always with you, may the sunshine warm you always till we meet again”

Art:Duskfang Mentor by Livia Prima

Duskfang Mentor which is basically like a permanent anthem effect on our lifelink creatures, while most of our creatures have lifelink we can give them lifelink when Duskfang Mentor enters. Our deck is filled to the brim with cards to make all of our creatures more evasive and give them lifelink so that they can the buff. This deck is mono-black as it comes with a bunch of removal and interaction with our opponents creatures! Without Further Adieu lets get it!

Why Duskfang Mentor?

The main reason we chose Duskfang Mentor is how strong that they are especially in a deck filled to the brim with lifelink creatures. Duskfang Mentor is a commander that we actually want to cast a few times a game to spread the lifelink counter around and buff our creatures every turn. Combine this with evasive spells and creatures that can let us attack without resistance and Duskfang Mentor is a card that actively assists with ending the game. As helpful as Duskfang Mentor is in many games we do not need to cast her and can win through straight up attacking!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck!

Creatures:

We have a pretty sweet early game that includes cards like Banehound which is a great lifelinker who can come out super early. We also have Changeling Outcast and Tormented Soul who are both great targets for Duskfang Mentors ability since they are unblockable! Ichor Drinker is a cool card since it is a small lifelinker and when it dies we can make another creature!

Boot Nipper is another really cool creature since we can just give it lifelink for the buff or deathtouch depending on the situation! Dauthi Horror and Dauthi Slayer are both great recipients for Duskfangs ETB. Courier Bat is another really cool creature that we can almost always get a creature back from our graveyard since we are gaining life very regularly.

Marauding Blight-Priest and Epicure of Blood are both great ways for us to get some extra damage in when we gain life, which is pretty often! One of the best finishers in our deck is Gray Merchant of Asphodel since we are mono-black we can stack up a ton of devotion to black and not only get some life but deal a ton of damage. One of our last big creatures is Vampire Sovereign which is a great way to deal 3 and gain 3 and its a big body flyer, no complaints from us here!

Instants:

Our instant package is full of removal like Cast Down and Murder and Victim of Night this is scratching the surface of all of the removal that we have in the deck but it is the main focus of our instant package. We do have cool cards like Unexpected Fangs which is a great way to give a creature lifelink and allow them to be buffed by Duskfang Mentor. We also have Feign Death and Undying Malice which are both great ways to get back a key creature and buff it!

Sorceries:

Our sorcery package mostly focuses on drawing cards with cards like Read the Bones, Sign in Blood and Painful Lesson the life drawback doesnt really matter to us since we can gain it back very quickly, often in the same turn! Corrupt is another cool sorcery that I have personally used to end games when opponents are low, great when damaging the opponent or killing a big creature! My favorite sorcery in the deck is Hideous Visage since it gives all of our creatures intimidate which can easily help us end the game!

Artifacts:

We have a pretty small artifact package, we do have two mana rocks which are just there for ramp mostly in Charcoal Diamond and Arcane Signet. Wedding Invitation not only draws us a card but we can make one creature unblockable and we also have a bunch of vampires so we can actually give them Lifelink as well! Campfire can be a great way to gain life if we have extra mana or get Duskfang Mentor out after she has died a few times!

Enchantments:

Our enchantment has a lot of auras that give lifelink like Eternal Thirst, Cartouche of Ambition and Mark of the Vampire which are all great ways to give creatures the buff from Duskfang Mentor! Demonic Vigor is a great card to equip to Duskfang Mentor since if they die we can get them back and recast them! Oubliette is one of the most popular pauper edh removal spells and is just a great card! Trespasser's Curse is really strong against aggressive or token strategies who love to fill the board!

Land Base:

Pretty simple mono-black land base as we always do in our pauper deck techs we are running every black cycling land that we can in case of flooding but the majority of our base is swamps. We do have Mortuary Mire and Witch's Cottage which can be a great way to recur a creature. We are only one color so we don’t need anything fancy!

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Strong against aggressive strategies
  • Easy to fill the board with evasive creatures
  • Deck can reliably function without commander if needed

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Weak to creature hate
  • Weak to Board wipes
  • No interaction on the stack

Deck Stats:

Sample Hands:

Main Win Conditions:

Our main win conditions is combat we have many cards that are naturally evasive like Dauthi Horror and Dauthi Slayer. We also have cards like Hideous Visage which can easily be a game-ending spell a lot of the time! There are no infinite combos or loops in the deck, just good old fashioned combat!

Conclusion:

In conclusion Duskfang Mentor is a really fun pauper edh deck that focuses heavily on lifelink which is not the most common strategy for mono-black while this deck does have classic mono-black elements like all of the removal spells, this deck is very different than what a typical mono-black deck feels like. This deck is a ton of fun to pilot and is just overall a great time!
