Why Eriette of the Charmed Apple?

Eriette is our main way to prevent us from dying through combat, and in a lot of cases is our main win condition and a very effective way to kill our opponents and gain a ton of life, we have payoffs for both that allow us to close out games quickly, Eriette is a tough commander to deal with and is a great part of the deck and really ties it all together.

5 Helpful Upgrades:

These are in no particular order but 5 cards I would add to the list if my budget increased!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck! For explanations of the combos please refer to the “Main Win Conditions” section below!

Creatures:

The main focus of our creature package is cards that are payoffs for all of the enchantments that we have! Archon of Sun's Grace is a great way to fill the board with creatures and have blockers for our opponents creatures that actually can attack! Underworld Coinsmith and Grim Guardian are both great ways to drain our opponents even more. Another great card to drain our opponents is Kambal, Consul of Allocation which is super good against spellslinger decks! Killian, Ink Duelist is a really strong card that reduces all of our aura’s costs and a few spells too! Thoughtrender Lamia is a really good card that can be very bad for our opponents especially when there creatures cant attack!

Instants:

Our instant package is packed to the brim with removal! We have Swords to Plowshares, Utter End, Despark and Anguished Unmaking just to name a few. Heliod's Intervention is a great way to gain a ton of life or destroy a bunch of our opponents artifacts or enchantments.

Sorceries:

Merciless Eviction and Fumigate are both great board wipes that can be effective ways to reset the game if we are behind. Three Dreams and Idyllic Tutor are both great ways to grab either our best curses or ones that are really good based on our opponents board state! Last but certainly not least we have Vindicate which is a really good removal spell that can target anything with the main drawback being that it is at sorcery speed.

Artifacts:

Since we gain a ton of life off of Eriette one of our best artifacts is Aetherflux Reservoir which is often ready to straight one-shot an opponent! Our artifact package is very small only containing Sol Ring and Arcane Signet which are both really good mana rocks and we will never say no to more mana!

Enchantments:

All of our curses are really good for specific reasons, curses like Curse of Death's Hold is a really great card against small creatures or any kind of token strategy! Curse of Oblivion is a really good card for shutting down reanimator strategies or really any deck that cares about the graveyard. Curse of Misfortunes is a really cool card to tutor up some more curses. Curse of Thirst is a great card that can really harm one player and is great for the archenemy of the table. Ghostly Prison is honestly an almost unfair card in this deck since we control a crazy amount of enchantments!

Land Base:

Our land base is nothing too special, we overall dont need a ton of mana to function 5-7 lands is typically perfect and we are perfectly ok with playing a land a turn and casting things on curve. There is no special sauce here, just basics and Orzhov dual lands. In testing this land base was very effective and after testing version with 32, 33 and 34 lands we found that 35 was the perfect number.

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Easy to gain a ton of life
  • Easy to lock down our opponents with our auras
  • Decent amount of interaction

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Weak to Enchantment Hate
  • Weak to Counterspell decks
  • Weak to Combo Decks

Deck Stats:

Main Win Conditions:

Our main win condition is getting Eriette triggers and draining our opponents, but we do have a few infinite combos that can end the game or get us in a really good position! Below are the combos in the deck explained. All of these combos can be game-ending with cards like Underworld Coinsmith or Archon of Sun's Grace or Grim Guardian

Screams from Within + Warehouse Tabby

Requires:

Screams from Within in hand. Warehouse Tabby on the battlefield. You control another creature with toughness equal to 1. 1BB available.

Steps:

  3. Resolve the Warehouse Tabby trigger, creating a 1/1 Rat creature token.
  4. Resolve the Screams from Within trigger, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield attached to the Rat.
  5. Repeat from step 2.

Results:

Infinite ETB. Infinite LTB. Infinite death triggers.

Screams from Within + Knight of Doves

Requires:

Screams from Within in hand. Knight of Doves on the battlefield. You control a creature with toughness equal to 1. 1BB available.

  4. Resolve the Screams from Within trigger, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield attached to the Bird.
  5. Repeat from step 2.

Results:

Infinite ETB. Infinite LTB. Infinite death triggers.

Conclusion:

In conclusion Eriette is a super fun commander who is the perfect commander for the curse archetype and is a great way to not only make our opponents unable to attack but bleed them dry when we curse them! The bleed effect from Eriette is on top of the curses so we can get the annoying and sometimes painful effects on our opponents! Hope you enjoyed dont forget you can always request a commander on our twitter or discord! Thanks for reading to the end!
