Tuesday Night Takeover

Fynn, The Fangbearer Deathtouch Pauper EDH:

You’re strong of arm. But ask yourself What harm can be done to a shadow?

Art:Fynn, the Fangbearer by Lie Setiawan

Fynn is a super sweet commander that benefits from creatures who have deathtouch. Connecting with a creature with deathtouch gives our opponents two poison counters. Since we have this our deck is filled to the brim with ways to proliferate poison counters and ways to make our creatures more evasive so they can always connect! Another big benefit of most of our creatures having deathtouch is that the average opponent is afraid to get into combat with this! This deck is really affordable at around 20 USD and is so much fun to play! Without Further Adieu Lets get into it!

Why Fynn, The Fangbearer?

Fynn is really strong for multiple reasons, one of Fynn’s biggest strength is that he is only 1G so if targeted and killed a lot he can easily be recast and continue to wreak havoc. Another great benefit of Fynn is that he only requires a creature with deathtouch to deal damage to benefit from his ability. In many situations it can be very beneficial to leave Fynn back and have the others creatures attack to get Fynn’s ability to trigger. Fynn overall is just a great commander that is an integral to our gameplan and can come out early and often!

Deck Overview:

The Deck Overview section features highlighted cards from the deck. For full descriptions of the combos check out the main win conditions section.

Creatures:

Our creature package of course has deathtouch creatures and a way to buff them! for our early game creatures we have Fang of Shigeki, Mirkwood Spider and Sedge Scorpion. All of these pretty much serve the same purpose to be early creatures that are able to trigger Fynns ability.

We are a mono-green deck so of course we have some ramp like Yavimaya Elder and Sakura-Tribe Elder and Deathbloom Gardener. which can be great to get out some of our bigger permanents in the mid to late game. We are not too heavy on ramp creatures since we more heavily favor really anything that is cheap with deathtouch or anything that can benefit off of that.

Some of our midgame deathtouch creatures include some sweet cards like Serpent-Blade Assailant which is a sweet little deathtouch creature with backup! Pharika's Disciple is another great creature with renown. Since we lack any card draw cards like Brightwood Tracker is a great card that allows us to filter through our deck and grab some of our better creatures!

Urban Daggertooth is a sweet creature that we always put into bad situations since we can proliferate when Daggertooth takes damage. One of the best cards in our deck is Nylea's Forerunner which can make our combat even worse for our opponents since we can very easily hit and get Fynns trigger. Tyrranax Atrocity is one of our biggest and aggressive creature and since it has toxic 3 is a great assist to our Fynn gameplan.

Instants:

We are in mono-green so we don’t have a ton of ways to interact but Nature's Claim is a great card that is cheap can help us get some life back and destroy an opponents important artifact and enchantment. One of our best way to remove creatures is to fight them with cards like Ambuscade and Ram Through these cards become super good when we target one of our many creatures with deathtouch.

Two other cards I want to highlight that are super sweet in our deck is Lace with Moonglove which is not only one of our few spells that draws a card but also gives one of our creatures deathtouch which we will never turn down. The other card is Pistus Strike while it can only target a creature with flying being able to give that opponent a poison counter helps a ton when we have Fynn and one of our many ways to proliferate on the wild!

Sorceries:

Courage in Crisis is a super sweet card in our deck especially in the mid-late game when opponents already have counters since we can buff one of our creatures and proliferate! Carnivorous Canopy is another great sorcery that is a kill spell and very often another way to proliferate!

Smell Fear is just a really good and efficient spell for our deck that allows us to fight any creature and proliferate, at only 1G this card really does it all for our deck. Revive is just a great way for us to get back really anything from our deck, this is really the only version of this effect in our deck so we do need to be careful about using this!

Artifacts:

This card may not be popular really anywhere but since it can hit so many cards in our deck it made the list. Squee's Toy is a card that most players probably never heard of, but in our deck can be a great way to protect some of our smaller creatures. Since we are a deck that has a ton of deathtouch Jousting Lance is a great way to not only buff a creature but give our creature first strike which makes combat even easier for us.

Bonder's Ornament is a card that is pretty common in Pauper EDH and while we typically dont get a lot of value from the mana we can get value from drawing 1-3 cards from ornament. Implement of Ferocity is a great artifact that gives us a counter and draws a card when we use it. Not a bad card for our deck since we always need more card draw and we will never say no to buffs.

Enchantments:

For creature buffs we have Predatory Hunger and Rancor are just great ways to make our creatures bigger and Rancor gives the bigger benefit of giving us trample which is always great with Fynn on the battlefield. We also have Talons of Wildwood which is very similar to Rancor. Another great buff is Treetop Bracers which makes our creature only be able to be blocked by flyers which can really help when we want to deal damage with Fynn on the field.

One of our best and coolest enchantments is Spidersilk Armor which not only gives all of our creatures reach we also get a toughness boost! The last enchantment I want to highlight is Snake Umbra which is one of our best sources of card draw which is in short supply in this deck!

Land Base:

The land base is really simple consisting of 33 forest but the nonbasics we have are great! Tranquil Thicket and Slippery Karst which are really just there to cycle if we are flooded or draw it in the late game! Cave of Temptation is a great way to get two counters on a creature and is good at really any stage of the game!

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Can easily end games with Fynn’s ability
  • Deathtouch / infect creatures make our opponents reluctant to go into combat with us
  • Fynn can be easily recast a bunch of times

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Almost no card draw
  • Not a ton of interaction
  • Weak to creature hate

Main Win Conditions:

Our main win conditions are through combat and more importantly through Fynn’s ability. Many of our creatures are small but all we need to do is connect and we can get the benefit of Fynn. With the many proliferation effects in the deck and with creatures that can continue to connect we can easily end games!

Conclusion:

In conclusion Fynn is a super sweet commander for Pauper EDH and this deck is a ton of fun to play! Fynn is really strong and can end games quickly. Because of the type of deck that Fynn allows you to run combat can be very scary for our opponents, this can allow us to get hits in very early and start getting a ton of proliferation which can help us kill our opponents very quickly! Overall Fynn is an awesome commander with a really fun playstyle, while your opponents might not love it, you likely will!

Thanks for reading to the end!
