Welcome to another installment of Brewed EDH:
Todays Featured Commander is:
Ghired is a sweet naya commander who can create a lot of tokens and a lot of fun. Ghired supports our gameplan by populating on attack as well as creating rhinos. Ghired is very easy to cast and has an impact quickly. You will like this deck if you love creatures and making them bigger, being ok with not being able to interact with your opponents much outside of combat! Ghired fits very well into a creature heavy meta and struggles against spell heavy meta. We are not a combo deck by any means we have some cards that interact well with each other but no infinite combos or loops of any kind. Lets get into it!
The Deck:
Ghired Tokens!
Why Ghired,Conclave Exile?
There are a bunch of great Naya token commanders like Jetmir, Nexus of Revels and Jinnie Fay, Jetmir's Second. While both of these cards are great and we have them in the 99 I believe that Ghired is the premier choice for Naya tokens commanders being able to populate on attack as well as create a 4/4 Rhino. We have a ton of ways to populate from our deck and having an additional outlet in the command zone is great as well. Ghired creating 4/4’s with trample can make him especially powerful because through ramp we can cast them a couple turns early.
Deck Overview:
Since we are a token deck we of course have many ways to make tokens! Some of our best token generators are Ghirel himself as well as Emeria Angel and Rhys the Redeemed are some of our best and easiest token generation. Another large focus of the deck is populate just creating more of our already created tokens to make our board presence even better. Since we are a token deck we are playing token strategy staples like Doubling Season, Primal Vigor and Parallel Lives and Anointed Procession. These are core cards of the deck that when on the battlefield by themselves or together can get out of hand very quickly. We are a naya deck but we do not play that many red cards are best red card in the deck is likely Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink which is a great way for us to make tokens of cards like Wurmcoil Engine and get the death benefit and then use our populate to make more and more copies of the wurmcoil tokens. Ghired is a defensive commander stats wise but we want to keep him on the battlefield as much as we can, we can make him live longer especially during combat by using Reconnaissance to get his attack trigger and using Reconnaissance to keep him safe when attacking into larger threats. since we make a ton of 1/1 tokens in the deck another card that is just overall great is Tribute to the World Tree this makes our small guys bigger and gives us card advantage for the big guys overall this card is amazing in this deck and helps with our combat win gameplan. Since we are in Naya it allows us to play a couple good removal spells like Generous Gift and Beast Within which can be helpful in answering problematic permanents. One of the downsides of our deck is that we can effectively deal with creatures but outside a few cards struggle to remove a ton of permanent types. We are able to play a few hate spells that also give us the populate benefit such as Sundering Growth. Overall we are a very fun and overwhelming token deck with boardstates that can get out of hand quite quickly, we are very much a snowball deck way may start small but once we get rolling can get out of hand very quickly!
Strengths of the Deck:
- Can overwhelm opponent with token production
- Ramp lets us play multiple spells or effect in one turn
- Commander is one our best token generators
Weaknesses of the Deck:
- Weak to creature hate
- hard to rebuild once stopped fully
- Not many ways to interact with non-creature permanents
Deck Stats:
Sample Hands:
Main Win Conditions:
We don’t have any real infinite combos or loops in this deck we mainly win with overwhelming our opponents through our combat step
Our typical win con is a large board and utilizing Craterhoof Behemoth and Triumph of the Hordes this is our easiest and most efficient way to end games!
Conclusion:
In conclusion we may not be the best token deck in the world but with frequent creature production and number of ways to make more and create them our board can get out of hand quite quickly! This deck is a ton of fun to pilot and is great for any player looking for a fun creature deck!
Thanks for reading to the end!
