Why Ley Weaver / Lore Weaver?

Ley Weaver and Lore weaver are both key parts of the deck and are the main way that we close out games. Being able to untap two lands can be an invaluable ability that can help us generate a ridiculous amount of mana and we can use Lore Weaver to draw cards or if we have infinite mana we can force our opponents to draw their entire deck! Our commanders may come with a bit of steep cost but both have strong and invaluable abilities!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck! As well as highlighting some of my favorite cards in the deck!

Creatures:

Firstly we have a bunch of cards to untap lands like Voyaging Satyr and Vizier of Tumbling Sands. We also have some strong creature untaps like Seeker of Skybreak all of these allow us to produce a ton of mana! Spore Frog is one of my favorite cards and who can say no to a Fog on a stick! Beanstalk Wurm // Plant Beans is a strong creature but we typically use the adventure side to give us a second copy of Explore! Drift of Phantasms is a great blocker but most often we transmute it so we can grab Freed from the Real! Shrine Steward is another really easy to cast way to grab Freed from the Real!

Instants:

Crop Rotation is a really strong card that lets us grab a key combo land very easily! Avoid Fate is one of my favorite cards because your opponents are always shocked when this one comes out! Dispel, Counterspell and Arcane Denial are all super strong counterspells that are cheap and effective! If we are playing against aggressive strategies and we are having a slower game we can use Fog as a strong way to protect ourself especially if opponents are buffing up their creatures! Unwind and Snap are both really cool cards that are basically free!

Sorceries:

We have an absolute ton of draw spells in our deck like Serum Visions, Ponder and Preordain! All of these are great cantrips that give us the ability to cycle through the deck and find key combo pieces / setup pieces! Since we produce a large amount of mana Treasure Cruise is a huge draw spell that we can actually cast pretty easily. Explore is a really strong piece of ramp with some card draw attached! Step Through can be an effective way to protect our own creatures or bounce our opponents but the real value comes from being able to wizard cycle to be able to grab key creatures like Galvanic Alchemist and Archaeomancer!

Artifacts:

Arcane Signet is a PEDH staple and a great piece of nonland mana! Expedition Map is a key artifact that lets us grab Simic Growth Chamber which is our best land when attempting to combo! Once we have infinite mana we can use Viridian Longbow as another way to end the game!

Enchantments:

Our enchantment package is where one of our biggest and best combo piece is in Freed from the Real which is the premier enchantment for comboing off in our deck! Besides that we have an absolute ton of ways to make our lands produce extra like Gift of Paradise and Market Festival just to name a couple. Many of these mana enchantment effects are redundant but are strong ways to interact with Ley Weaver!

Land Base:

Lands serve a very important role in our deck, since we have a ton of creatures and our commanders can untap lands we can produce a ton of mana off of something like a Simic Growth Chamber. Besides Simic Growth Chamber which is almost always our target for Expedition Map / Crop Rotation! Besides that we have a bunch of extra lands that help us draw cards like The Surgical Bay and The Hunter Maze which are both great ways to cycle through our deck!

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Can combo very early
  • Decent amount of card draw
  • A ton of mana production

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Our combo is our main win condition and can be tough to close out games without it
  • Weak to enchantment hate
  • Weak to control strategies

Deck Stats:

Sample Hands:

Main Win Conditions:

We typically win the game through Freed from the Real or Galvanic Alchemist which are both ways to get infinite mana! We have a bunch of outlets for infinite mana like Wildheart Invoker which is a way to make an infinitely big creature or we can use Argothian Sprite. All of our combos with both Freed and Alchemist work the same way just requiring 2 mana production for Freed and 4 for Alchemist. Nearly all of the combos in the deck follow the same path so we are only fully laying out the one. Once we have infintie mana the sky is the limit we can even use Lore Weaver to draw our opponents out!

Requires:

All permanents on the battlefield. Freed from the Real attached to Ley Weaver. You control at least 2 lands that can tap for mana, at least one of which can tap for U. Ley Weaver does not have summoning sickness.

Steps:

  1. Tap Ley Weaver untapping two lands.
  2. Tap those lands, floating 1U.
  3. Spend U to activate Freed from the Real, untapping Ley Weaver.
  4. Repeat for infinite colored mana.

Results:

Infinite colored mana.

Conclusion:

Ley Weaver and Lore Weaver may be a little one-dimensional but are still an absolute blast to play! While I wouldn’t bring this out for a casual – mid power game I think this is perfect if your table is a little more tuned to the competitive side! Either way this deck is a blast and a very fun and established deck within Pauper EDH that took us way to long to feature on the site! Thanks for reading to the end and thanks for all of your support!
