Non-Budget Upgrades for the Temur Roar Precon

“It’s made up of things that will never be.”

If you haven’t checked out yesterday’s article where we go over all of the budget upgrades for this deck, you should as that is the base shell that we are building on today. While the budget upgrades that we add are quite strong, being able to add non-budget upgrades can open us up to a crazy world of possibilities and cards that can be complete gamechangers in the deck (although the ones we feature today are not actually gamechangers. This list is not full of super expensive cards but will feature five cards that are over 15 dollars and make a huge impact on this deck. Without further ado, let’s get it!

I don’t think I need to explain just how strong terror of the peaks is, while it being a little more annoying to remove is quite good the real beauty of this comes from its second ability allowing us to dish out a ton of damage, whether we hit faces or creatures this card is a powerhouse on a four-mana 4/4 body, just one of the best dragons every printed. Taurean Mauler is a good card that can get big, but it does quite a target on your back, and I just don’t think it’s worth it.

A Temur deck just doesn’t feel complete without a copy of Devastation, whether we use it to pump our dragons to the moon or just search up a strong dragon its a true powerhouse of a card that can really change the game for us. The main reason I cut Will of the Temur is that we already have a decent amount of card draw present in the deck and its just not that great, while it can be a nice support piece, it doesn’t advance the gameplan a ton.

Astral Dragon is a little pricey mana cost-wise, but with all of the ramp we have, it can be cast quite early, and being able to copy two noncreature permanents and make them creatures is just an insane effect. We can use this to copy pretty much the best of the best of the non-creature spells and just get really far ahead. This card does put a bit of a target on our back, but it is too strong not to run.

There is no doubt that dragons are expensive, and being able to reduce their cost by two colorless can really change the game for us. Having this on an enchantment that only costs three and does minorly punish opponents for casting non-creatures, and this card is just amazing for our deck. Breaching Dragonstorm draws far too much attention and can’t be repeated very often since it costs five. Those are the main reasons I decided to cut it from the deck.

The game is pretty much over if we drop this. Our opponents basically have no chance at that point. This is an Omniscience for our deck, and while it absolutely changes the game, it’s also shockingly easy to drop on the field in this deck. Frontier Siege is a very good card, but I think works far better in decks that are a little bit slower and don’t ramp as hard as we do.
