Shadrix Silverquill Tokens Brewed EDH

“The dragon chose me for my sacrifice. I would not deny its truth.”

Art:Shadrix Silverquill by Raymond Swanland

Shadrix Silverquill is a commander that fly’s under the radar and is honestly not as popular as I would expect, they are interesting card that works perfectly for commander as it combines value with full table interaction and a little bit of politicking! Our deck is a straight up Orzhov token strategy with a bunch of token generation, token doublers and payoffs for our massive board, we have a ton of removal and a bunch of ways to get bigger while limiting our opponents! Without further adieu lets get it!

Why Shadrix Silverquill?

Shadrix is not entirely a build around card, whether we choose to make a creature or draw a card, Shadrix just offers a lot of options and can help us build goodwill with our opponents, while this may not make you immune or make your other opponents happy you can always “spread the love” and give yourself the best benefit! Shadrix is a big creature as well but typically we do not attack since his beginning of combat ability is very beneficial for us! Whether you draw a card, create an inkling or buff all of our creatures Shadrix is a really fun commander!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck! As well as highlighting some of my favorite cards in the deck!

Creatures:

Our creature package is where we have some big token generators like Ancient Gold Dragon and Adeline, Resplendent Cathar both of which can really warp the game when they come out! Bennie Bracks, Zoologist is a pretty much every turn card draw machine! Combat Calligrapher is an awesome card that disincentivize our opponents from attacking us and have them refocus their efforts on our opponents! Company Commander is a crazy card that not only produces tokens but can make combat an absolute nightmare for our opponents! Elenda, the Dusk Rose can be a huge token producer especially when we utilize sac outlets like Carrion Feeder! We are a token deck so Mirkwood Bats was an absolute no-brainer auto include! To make our tokens even better or to counter an opponent who is also on a token strategy we have what I call the finisher in Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite! This card devastates so many strategies when it hits the field, expect all eyes to be on you when this lands!

Planeswalkers:

Our planeswalker package focuses mostly on walkers that produce tokens or do something cool with them! Kaya, Geist Hunter is an awesome card who not only makes tokens, she basically acts as a Anointed Procession with her second ability! We rarely get to her ult but if we do there are a ridiculous amount of tokens coming our way! Sorin, Lord of Innistrad is really cool since we can make tokens, get an emblem to buff our creatures as soon as he comes out and destroy opponents creatures and get them to come over to our side. Kaya and Sorin are both really strong walkers for the deck!

Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools is a token producer who also has a strong draw / sac outlet and if we can ult him, which to be fair rarely happens we can really swing the game in our favor! Elspeth, Sun's Champion is a big token producer who can board wipe as needed and if we ever ult her the game is pretty much over at that point!

Instants:

We have a ton of removal at instant speed like Generous Gift, Despark and Fracture which are all cheap removal spells with almost no downside! Snuff Out is crazy since it is almost always free! Akroma's Will can be a game-ender depending on the size of our board! Call the Coppercoats and Secure the Wastes are a great way to make blockers in a flash or just add more tokens to the pile!

Sorceries:

Blot Out the Sky isnt just an absolute flavor win but dang this card is good! A token producer and a board wipe all in one! Finale of Glory is another crazy token producer as well, it can be ok in the early game but is best when used as a finale! Damn and Damnation as well as Toxic Deluge which are great mass removal spells that can help swing the tide in our favor if we are falling behind! Demonic Tutor is just a classic and a great way to get whatever we want!

Artifacts:

Arcane Signet, Sol Ring and Talisman of Hierarchy are all on-color mana rocks for the deck that are just strong ways to get more mana! We are a token deck who produces a ton of 1/1’s and 2/1’s so Skullclamp is an absolute bomb in the deck! Phyrexian Altar and Ashnod's Altar are both used mostly for our combos but can be a great way to turn extra tokens into mana!

Enchantments:

We have a ton of enchantments that help create more tokens and buff them up! My favorite enchantment in the deck is Anointed Procession which is a token making machine for only 4 mana! Speaking of strong enchantments at 4 mana, we absolutely had to include Smothering Tithe which is a really strong mana producer! Dramatic Finale is a card that often gets overlooked in Orzhov tokens decks but is a really strong card that makes all of our tokens so much better! Cathars' Crusade and Virtue of Loyalty // Ardenvale Fealty are both really strong ways to buff up our board a ton!

Land Base:

We have a land base with some awesome nonbasics! Cabal Coffers is a huge mana generator for the deck and is especially good when combined with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth making everything a swamp which makes Cabal Coffers even better! Phyrexian Tower is a strong mana outlet for the abundance of tokens that we have! Besides that our land base mostly consists of Orzhov Duals and various ways to produce both white and black!

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Bunch of ways to produce a ton of tokens “token doublers” a plenty
  • Shadrix is a card draw and token machine
  • Decent amount of targeted removal / board wipes

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Not a ton of ways to draw cards
  • Deck can be a little slow in the start
  • Can be weak to control decks since we often dont have a lot of recourse for their actions

Conclusion:

Shadrix is a really fun commander who lets us play a token deck with a minor group hug strategy coming solely from Shadrix himself! This deck is perfect for token lovers who dont mind politicking with opponents at the EDH table! We are a token deck through and through and we have a ton of payoffs and ways to benefit us from attacking en masse! Thanks so much for the support and for reading to the end!
