Soulblade Corrupter and Soulblade Renewer are a really sweet pair and our conclusion the Battlebond Partners for Pauper EDH here on TNT! In this finale we have a sweet Golgari +1/+1 counters deck that combines all of the strongest elements of black and green and creates a powerful deck that focuses on buffing up and controlling the board! This pair is criminally underrated in Pauper EDH and besides our list only has 2 decks on Moxfield. This pair is an absolute blast and I recommend it to anyone of any skill level! Without further adieu lets get it!

Why Soulblade Corrupter / Soulblade Renewer?

Both of our partners serve an important role, but if we are being honest most of the weight is pulled by Soulblade Corrupter! Being able to give not only our creatures with +1/+1’s deathtouch but our opponents as well is a great way to not only serve us in combat but create chaos for all opponents as well! Soulblade Renewer is by no means bad since we get a support 2 buff on ETB but in comparison Soulblade Renewer is the weaker partner! We are able to use both of these commanders very effectively and as a great way to further the gameplan!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck! As well as highlighting some of my favorite cards in the deck!

Creatures:

Our creatures love to buff each other and we have a ton of payoffs for all of our buffs! Some of our best payoffs include cards like Crowned Ceratok, Hagra Constrictor and Longshot Squad are all huge payoffs that make us better in combat both offensively and defensively! Deepwood Denizen is a card that we can use all the time to get extra cards and we can do it for really cheap pretty easily! Savage Gorger is not only an evasive attacker but a great card that keeps getting bigger! Sporeback Troll is a sweet card that can be a great way to bring a key creature back! Territorial Scythecat is a great card that we can use to get buffs for something we do pretty much all the time! Undergrowth Scavenger is a card that can be really strong depending on the state of the game / what decks make up the table but is always pretty good, you want to avoid casting this one too early!

Instants:

We have a bunch of instant speed removal like Cast Down, Go for the Throat and Murder which are all cheap and strong spells that can be great ways to kill commanders or any problematic creatures our opponents have! Grim Affliction can be an asset for combat making us win a block and being able to proliferate making all of our creatures that much better! Undying Evil, Feign Death are both great ways to get a creature back and they get a counter! Nature's Claim and Undying Malice are both sweet cards that can be super strong against the right opponent but at nearly every table they are pretty good!

Sorceries:

Cultivate, Kodama's Reach and Explore are the main pieces of ramp in our deck and a great way to get ahead and make sure we have both of our colors out! Night's Whisper, Read the Bones and Sign in Blood are the primary draw spells in the deck which are all pretty cheap and a great way to refill our hand! One of my favorite buffs in the deck is Essence Infusion since not only can we get 2 counters for 2 mana we get lifelink on that creature as well, which is really strong against aggressive decks! Once a creature is all buffed up we can use cards like Soul's Might to make it even worse for our opponents!

Artifacts:

We have some mana rocks like Golgari Signet, Arcane Signet and Bonder's Ornament which are all strong extra sources of mana! Wedding Invitation is a piece of card draw and a great way to make a big creature unblockable! Armory of Iroas is a great way to keep the buffs coming and when combined with our deathtouch from Soulblade Corrupter your opponents better watch out!

Enchantments:

Predatory Hunger is the gift that keeps on giving and it keeps giving us +1/+1 counters! The same is true for Eternal Thirst which acquires buffs in a bit of a different way but is still really strong Forced Adaptation is another really sweet buff as well. Master Chef not only buffs both of our commanders but all of our creatures as well, this card is an absolute workhorse for only 3 mana! Oubliette is a Pauper EDH classic and just a strong removal spell!

Land Base:

Our land base has a lot of extra ways for us to draw cards like The Hunter Maze and The Dross Pits as well as both of the desert lands from Amonkhet! We also have Desert which can help us be a little bit stronger against aggressive decks and kill some of there early creatures! Forge of Heroes is a cool card we can use to get some extra buffs on either of our commanders! Bojuka Bog is absolutely perfect if we have an opponent on a graveyard strategy, other than that we have mostly Golgari duals and some basics!

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Combat is really easy because of our commanders ability
  • Decent amount of card draw
  • Decent amount of interaction

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Deck is weaker without Soulblade Corrupter out
  • Weak to creature hate
  • Weak to aggressive strategies as we can sometimes start slow

Deck Stats:

Sample Hands:

Main Win Conditions:

We have no infinite combos or loops in the deck and we win through game through good old-fashioned combat. This is of course made easier by buffing up all of our creatures and being able to control the board through having deathtouch!

Conclusion:

Soulblade Corrupter and Soulblade Renewer are some super sweet partners and are the conclusion of our Battlebond Partners series! What a great pair to end on and a really fun deck to pilot! This deck is pretty rare at least on Moxfield and is an absolute blast to play and in my opinion should get a bunch more play! While there are a ton of more popular options this Soulblade pair are an absolute ton of fun to play! Thanks for reading to end and thanks for all of the support!
