Talion is one of the coolest commanders from Wilds of Eldraine, we can draw an absolute ton of cards and Talion is also a Faerie which helps with some of our creature-type matters anthem effects! Talion is the awesome commander of a fun faerie deck which seeks to control our opponents on the stack and on the field as well as amass a huge army of flying faeries and turn them sideways for the win! We are able to draw a lot of cards sometimes with Talions ability which can help a ton with transitioning from the mid-late game! Without further adieu lets get it!

Why Talion, the Kindly Lord?

Talion is the perfect commander for the deck since we can draw a ton of cards, no matter what number we choose! I tend to focus on 1,2,3 as in testing I found that these gave us the most bang for our buck if you will. In addition to that Talion is a 3/4 for four with flying which is a perfect card for our deck!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck! As well as highlighting some of my favorite cards in the deck!

Creatures:

We truthfully dont have any ramp or a ton of early game but we do have Cloud of Faeries which we can use to cast a mana rock or another 2 mana spell! Brazen Borrower // Petty Theft is a really cool way to bounce a permanent or have an aggressive 3 mana creature! Faerie Bladecrafter is a card that can get out of hand very quickly and can be just like a Gray Merchant of Asphodel! Glen Elendra Liege is an awesome card that is an anthem effect for every creature in our deck! Scion of Oona is another great anthem effect, we will never say no to buffing our creatures up!

Nettling Nuisance is not only a card that we can easily trigger but it really does haunt and annoy our opponents for the rest of the game! Obyra, Dreaming Duelist is another cheap card that we can use to whittle down our opponents life total! Sower of Temptation is a really cool card since we can steal pretty much anything perfect for a commander! Tegwyll, Duke of Splendor is a great card that allows us to draw more cards but my favorite part of Tegwyll is that she is aggressively stat-ed and a perfect blocker! Alela, Cunning Conqueror is not only a strong token producer but can be a huge piece of chaos for the table since we can goad a key creature for an opponent!

Instants:

We are a Dimir deck so we have to have some sweet counterspells like Counterspell, Arcane Denial and Swan Song which are all strong ways to stop our opponents shenanigans! Deadly Rollick and Snuff Out are cards that we can often cast for free and take out a combo piece or a commander! Faerie Fencing and Defile are great cards that we can use to take out a small creature or perfect for a huge indestructible creature!

Sorceries:

Distant Melody is a crazy big card draw spell for our deck, Rankle's Prank is a really cool card that we can use to hurt our opponents and when we have a ton of cards in hand it doesnt affect us too much! Stolen by the Fae is a cool way to bounce a key creature or commander and get some extra faeries out of the deal! Kindred Dominance is my favorite sorcery in the deck since we can protect our board and ruin our opponents!

Artifacts:

Naturally we are running some staple mana rocks like Arcane Signet, Sol Ring and Dimir Signet but we also have some sweet artifacts that buff our creatures. Awesome cards like Door of Destinies, Urza's Incubator and Vanquisher's Banner which are all great ways to buff up our faeries! With only one of those artifacts on the field the game can start to get out of hand, once we have multiple the game really gets out of hand!

Enchantments:

Even though we can draw an absolute ton of cards off of Talion sometimes we just dont get a lot of Talion triggers, but we almost always have a lot of creatures so cards like Kindred Discovery and Reconnaissance Mission are both great ways to draw cards. Propaganda is the perfect card for us against aggressive or any big swinging wide deck. Rogue Class not only makes our creatures more evasive but we can get some extra cards from our opponents out of the deal! Bitterblossom was an absolute auto-include in the deck since we can make a ton of faeries and the 1 life loss doesn’t really affect us too much!

Land Base:

We have a heavy amount of nonbasics and other sources of U/B in our deck, we are primarily blue so we do lean heavier towards blue quite a bit. The best land in the deck is Cavern of Souls which is a perfect card to defend against heavy control strategies and make sure we can cast our key permanents! Secluded Glen is a really cool land since it is on theme and a free untapped dual land is not something we will ever say no too!

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Faeries are naturally evasive as nearly all of them have flying
  • Talion is a sweet piece of card draw
  • Decent counter interaction package

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Weak to creature hate
  • Talion can sometimes not draw cards which will slow the overall gameplan
  • Weak to more aggressive control strategies

We do not have infinite combos or loops in the deck we are a combat deck through and through and seek to control the game with a strong board presence and some backup counterspells to limit our opponents and swing for the fences, we are naturally evasive and have some decent card draw from Talion!

Conclusion:

Talion is an amazing commander for Faeries allowing us to have an efficient creature with a sweet card draw ability in the command zone, while we are built around jamming the board with as many faeries as possible we are able to have a control gameplan and limit what our opponents can do while we build a huge faerie army.
