Tempting Licid Fight Club Pauper EDH

“The Will Comes From Within, Not From The Blade.”

Art:Tempting Licid by Randy Gallegos

Big Shoutout to Scoobydrew0 on twitter for the deck idea / inspiration!

A link to their Moxfield List which inspired our deck! Let them Fight by ScoobyDrew0

Tempting Licid is a really sweet mono-green commander who is not as popular as they should be! Tempting Licid only has four decks on Moxfield! Tempting Licid is a ton of fun to play and is a really interesting and different take from the typical mono-green gameplan. We are able to load up our board with a bunch of deathtouch creatures and creatures that get benefits from blocking and clear out all of our opponents creature and finish them off with our huge creatures!

Why Tempting Licid?

The main reason we chose Tempting Licid is that they are a perfect commander for controlling the board and forcing our opponents to have weak combat phases where nearly all of their untap creatures die, this is especially crazy when we have cards with deathtouch! Tempting Licid is a card that doesn’t get enough love and is a ton fun to play!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck! As well as highlighting some of my favorite cards in the deck!

Creature:

An important thing to remember about our creature package is while a lot of these creatures may look unremarkable on their own when we combine them with Tempting Licid we can easily take down an entire board of our opponents creatures! We have a ton of cards that get benefits from blocking like Berserk Murlodont, Rabid Elephant and Venomous Dragonfly just to name a few, we have a ton of effects like this in the deck! We also have some sweet cards that help with Tempting Licid activations like Jangling Automaton which is a great way to force all of our opponents creatures to block! Nightshade Peddler is one of my favorite creatures in the deck since we can give two creatures deathtouch which basically means we can clear two of our opponents boards!

We are a green deck afterall so we also have some late-0game huge creatures that can be great ways to end the game like Eldrazi Devastator, Ulamog's Crusher and Annoyed Altisaur which are all huge late-game creatures that even without activating Tempting Licid we can really put a clock on our opponents! Dread Linnorm // Scale Deflection is another awesome creature that is not only a strong attacker / blocker but a great way to protect a creature and buff them if we use its adventure side! Oakgnarl Warrior is another great late-game creature, even though we call them late-game creatures we can often cast them a little early with our ramp!

Instants:

We can be a little slow to start so we have a bunch of effects to protect from combat damage like Moment's Peace and Inspire Awe which is a really great way to kill our opponents creature while saving our own perfect for a deathtouch! Speaking of deathtouch Lace with Moonglove and Poison the Blade are both great ways to give any of our creatures deathtouch! Wrap in Vigor is another really cool card that allows us to save all of our creature in case of a mass board destruction spell!

Sorceries:

Our sorcery package is really small and full of ramp consisting of Cultivate, Nature's Lore and Skyshroud Claim not really too much to say here just great and consistent ways to get more mana!

Artifacts:

We get most of our mana from lands so the only mana rock we have is Moss Diamond besides that we have PDH staples like Bonder's Ornament, Campfire and Wedding Invitation which are all really strong cards that help to round out the deck! Jousting Lance is a really strong buff card and we will never say no to first strike. My favorite equipment in the deck is Trailblazer's Torch which can get really crazy since we can basically Shock every creature that blocks us!

Enchantments:

We have a bunch of enchantments that help us with blocking like Ferocity, Gift of the Woods and Venom which are all great ways to get buffs and in the case of venom, kill our opponents creatures! We also have some more offensive focused enchantments like Snake Umbra and Talons of Wildwood are both really strong enchantments whether we are attacking or blocking!

Land Base:

Our land base is mono-green so it is pretty simple but we have some cool lands like Tranquil Thicket and Slippery Karst which are both great ways to draw some extra cards! We also have Cave of Temptation which is a great card to buff up a creature! Other than that we have a pretty simple land base mostly consisting of forests and a few nonbasics!

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Very easy to control the board
  • Tempting Licid can protect itself
  • Decent ramp package

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Not a ton of interaction
  • Not a ton of card draw
  • Weak to creature hate

Deck Stats:

Sample Hands:

Main Win Conditions:

We have no infinite combos or loops in the deck, we typically win by using one of our deathtouch creatures combined with Tempting Licid to clear out our opponents board to clear the way for our bigger creatures to help close out game! We can use tempting licid to control the board and swing when it is beneficial to us!

Conclusion:

In conclusion Tempting Licid is a ton of fun to pilot and a really interesting take on manipulating and controlling the combat step! Licid is a really crazy creature that only has 4 decks on Moxfield! This deck is a ton of fun and I am surprised it doesn’t have a lot more decks floating around out there! This deck is a real blocking machine and really lives up to the name fight club! Thanks for reading to the end and we really appreciate all of the support! Stay tuned for more articles daily!
