Reprints are certainly a very hot and a little controversial topic within the MTG community; Card accessibility is something that is really important to me, and players being able to get into cards and decks without exorbitant price tags helps the game a ton. For that reason, I have made a list of 10 cards that absolutely need some reprints, while most of these have had reprints in the past: Masters sets, sets where they are in a special slot or at a lower drop rate, or some cards that just haven’t been reprinted in forever are all present on this list. I hope you all enjoy this one, and here’s to hoping we see at least some of these cards reprinted in 2025! Without further ado, let’s get it!
#10:
Archfiend only has two printings in Battlebond and, in commander masters, two non-standard sets with a pretty crowded mythic pool; combining that with Archfiend being a really popular commander drives up the price quite a bit and makes this card way higher than it needs to be. This card is no doubt good but deserves to see a standard set printing; this likely would not affect the standard or any other formats much besides EDH; this is an awesome effect, and with a reprint and a lower price, it could be run much more often.
#9:
Theros really was ages ago! I still cannot believe that Theros came out all the way back in 2013! Nytkhos is absolutely a highlight from Theros, and this card works so well in so many decks; its high price keeps it out of a lot of decks, but this card is great in pretty much any mono-color deck. This feels like such an amazing card in so many decks, and besides some promotional printings that don’t have anything else, this card is another one that I don’t think would affect the standard too much if it was reprinted.
#8:
Token decks are great for all players but in my experience, are especially loved by newer players, even with some additional special prints, this card has not really budged at all and still fetches an extremely high price. This is no doubt an amazing card, but its inaccessibility leads to it being cut quite a bit or just not included. Parallel Lives could definitely have an effect on standard, but I think this is a perfect candidate for a precon or similar supplemental product.
#7:
Another very expensive commander-focused spell that has only had a precon release and a masters set release, this did almost nothing to move the needle, this is arguably one of the best black removal spells in the format and should absolutely be reprinted soon, I think this card is good for the format and cheap and efficient removal is always good to keep broken decks or combo decks in check.
#6:
Lands are the cornerstone of all EDH decks, and Urborg is a huge part of so many mono-black decks or decks that include black, this card absolutely should not be as expensive as it is, this card is strong and definitely a great card but a card that is often an auto-include in many black or black adjacent decks should not be this expensive, while it has had recent reprints within special treatments like LOTR that has done nothing to drive the price down.
#5:
Another extremely optimized and strong land that needs to be reprinted. A fetch for an untapped basic is really good, and while it shouldn’t be printed into oblivion like Evolving Wilds or Terramorphic Expanse
it should have more printings than Modern Horizons, a Zendikar Expedition, and a Special Guests slot is not enough at all, while this card will never be 0.25 I think that 5-10 dollars would help with accessibility for a lot of players.
#4:
Some control mages absolutely need some more love; this card is just perfect for commander, and having to pay $40-50 dollars for a commander-focused card just feels really terrible. This card is super strong and most blue decks could get a ton of use out of it, but its price tag hurts its playability amongst a large amount of players.
#3:
Drawing cards is good, kind of like really good! And Rhystic study is extremely good at drawing cards, what started as a common should not cost 40+ dollars. While the Wilds of Eldraine’s preview are extremely pretty, they did nothing to move the needle, and this card needs more and more reprints, I would argue this is one of the most played commander staples and should be played a lot more, while I’m sure some are unhappy about that notion I think access is ever-important.
#2:
One of magic’s most iconic lands is still fetching a crazy price tag so many years later, while it has had some semi-recent reprints, they were in masters sets and did very little to drive the price down, I think additional reprints in masters sets would help to get this card in players hands and make this multiple-format staple a lot cheaper for everyone.
#1:
The Ancient Dragons Cycle:
I guess this is kind of cheating since it is a whole cycle, but all of these absolutely need reprints, dragons are arguably one of the most iconic creatures in magic, and this cycle has some of the best dragons in the format, because of this they are all fetching a pretty decent price tag and no reprints yet keep driving these up and making these awesome creatures less and less accessible.
Conclusion:
Thanks so much for reading to the end! I hope this article wasn’t too controversial. I certainly wasn’t trying to ruffle any feathers; I just picked ten cards that could be way more accessible, and I haven’t seen reprints outside of special appearances in quite a long time. How many of these will we see reprinted in 2025? I don’t know, but I’m hoping for all ten! Stay tuned and tap in!
