Teyo is an interesting one! At first, I was super skeptical of Teyo and not sure how well they would work in Pauper EDH, having hexproof as a player presents some very interesting gameplay loops, and against decks that try to target you with spells or abilities we can be quite strong, while this isn’t always relevant it can be good in certain situations and overall provides a decent amount of value for the deck. While our commander isn’t always super relevant, they can provide a nice amount of utility. This is a Voltron deck through and through and being in mono-white positions us very well to hit hard and have a ton of great artifacts/enchantments for damage as well as protection. Between that and our spell package, it can be quite hard for our opponents to use single-target removal to get rid of our Voltron package. This is a weird and interesting one! Without further ado, let’s get it!
The Deck:

Teyo is a card that I always like to keep on the field because they arent an absolute game breaker opponents almost never go super hard to remove this, this is of course deck dependent, but they rarely go hard at Teyo, Teyo being able to produce a decent amount of blockers also helps to keep them on the field. While Teyo’s passive may not be super relevant against a ton of decks, it can provide a decent amount of utility throughout the game, and with a deck as strong as this one, it can work well. Teyo is a strong commander for the deck!
Deck Matchups:
Since this is Pauper EDH, there are an absolute ton of things that can tip a game in your favor or out of it. While an archetype may seem favorable, there are absolutely good and bad commanders for our deck to go up against; I have included both these, which were all played among my testing groups using various decks, and I have included the sample size for clarity purposes. This is just meant to be a guide after testing a bunch of games with this deck!
The information below is notes about specific decks that were featured in our testing pods and how we fared against them. Naturally, Pauper EDH is a multiplayer game, so these are just a summary of my notes against different commanders and strategies. When we test these decks we try to test to its strengths and weaknesses to give a full spectrum of what the deck has to offer. Various commanders and archetypes/strategies are used to get the most accurate information.
This is a very good matchup for our deck, and this is definitely one of the matchups where Teyo shines, Davriel has a ton of creatures and spells that target us, and these just don’t work against us, if we produce our defenders as soon as Teyo comes out we can keep them on the field for quite a long time while we build up our Voltron base and hit hard!
I like this matchup for our deck. Teyo is especially relevant against their commander, and our Voltron can beat them down pretty easily. Redcap, in my experience, usually doesn’t take us seriously until we start dropping some big Voltron pieces, so it’s always worth it to have some protection before we start committing to the best of the best we have.
This is another good matchup for us; Teyo’s ability is quite good here, and if we just follow the normal game plan, we can usually run them over. I had no real issues with any of our creatures or their commander, and with cards like Angelic Gift giving our Voltron creature flying, we can go over the top and take care of business.
This is a rough one; Arabella is just too fast and aggressive for us, and since we are not that good of blockers most of the time, we just get run over. This is a pretty bad matchup for the deck, and since we don’t really have any ways to remove their commander, we can struggle a lot.
Another really tough matchup, they ramp so quickly, and our commander and Voltron package they just don’t care about and just do their own thing and hit us like a truck in combat. If we want to have any chance against them we need assistance from our other opponents.
This is a rough one; they really don’t care about Teyo or what we are doing at all; since we don’t have a reliable way to get rid of their commander, they can easily just drain and gain us out of the game. I played against a Hare Apparent version of this deck and a traditional version of this deck and got stomped by both.
Strategy Overview:
Never let them target you:
Keeping Teyo on the board is a big part of this deck; while it’s not always relevant, we don’t even want to give our opponents an opportunity to target us with spells and abilities.
Protect your creatures at all costs:
We are a Voltron deck in every way. Because of that, we need to protect our creatures in combat and from removal; keeping our creatures protected is the only path for us to win a game.
Use your removal very wisely:
We really only have one piece of removal in Generous Gift, so using it at the right time and on the most pressing permanent is key to keeping us alive, I typically save this for a really problematic commander or a permanent that will actively kill us.
Deck Overview:
This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck! I also highlighted some of my favorite cards in the deck!
Creatures:
Let’s start off strong and talk about our awesome Voltron creatures! I am a big fan of Akrasan Squire, as the exalted can be nice and an extra damage buff for the early game. I am also a huge fan of Skyhunter Skirmisher, which can end games extremely quickly, and with just a few pieces of equipment/enchantments on them, we can hit like an absolute truck. The same is also true for Fencing Ace which is also a great option for the deck. Beyond our Voltron creatures, we also have an awesome supporting cast as well like Shrine Steward and Heliod's Pilgrim, which are both awesome ways to grab both All That Glitters and Ethereal Armor which are both really easy ways for us to end the game. I am also a huge fan of Starnheim Courser, which reduces the cost for a large majority of our deck; the impact of this is huge and accelerates the whole of the gameplan very quickly. We can struggle to draw cards in mono-white so having both Thraben Inspector and Novice Inspector, which can provide some early blockers and card draw and if we don’t need the card draw can keep the artifacts which helps with All That Glitters.
Instants:
We don’t have a ton of spells within the deck, but they are very impactful, my favorite instant in the deck is Battlefield Improvisation, which is a cheap buff and can equip all of our equipment at once, this is not only a great offensive card but a good defensive one as well, being able to recover after a Voltron creature dies is very strong. Hopefully, our Voltron creature won’t die because we have quite a bit of protection like Center Soul, Stave Off, and Emerge Unscathed. If we fall behind and an opponent is about to hit us like a truck, I really like Dawn Charm as a way to protect ourselves.
Sorceries:
We are pretty light on sorceries, but I am a big fan of all of them; if a key creature dies in combat or to removal, being able to recur them with Recommission and Return Triumphant are both really awesome options. While it cant kill really big creatures or white creatures Sunlance is a great option and perfect for probalmemtic early commanders or creatures, while it is only one card it can help us against aggressive strategies.
Artifacts:
This is a TNT deck, so you know we are running Wedding Invitation since we don’t have a lot of supplemental cards drawn within our deck, Wedding Invitation feels even better than it normally does, being able to one-shot an opponent with a big Voltron creature is made much easier with this card, this same is also true for Whispersilk Cloak which is another amazing option for us to one-shot an opponent. I am a big fan of our cheap equipment like Greatsword of Tyr, Bonesplitter, and Darksteel Axe all of these can help to accelerate our damage early and get the ball rolling very quickly. These are both great ways to be strong in early-game combat and stem some of the bleeding if we need to block against more aggressive strategies. Another awesome early-game piece of equipment is Armory of Iroas it makes our creature better every turn and after a few turns can put it out of range for most creatures to beat it in combat. Last but certainly not least, I want to feature Vorrac Battlehorns and Haunted Cloak both of these can turn our creatures into absolute keyword soup and make us extremely deadly in combat.
Enchantments:
All That Glitters and Ethereal Armor are not only the highlight of our enchantment package they are arguably the highlight of our deck, these are both amazing finishers, and if we can get these out and attack once or twice we can easily take out opponents, these help us stack damage like crazy, I always like to make sure I have protection before I play these because typically all eyes are on us when we drop either of these, even if our artifact/enchantment count isn’t very at high tat the time. We are a little defensive in our enchantment package with cards like Oblivion Ring, and Reprobation allow us to take away the best creatures our opponents have to offer. Another card that helps us against creatures deck is Squire's Devotion while the buff is small, the lifelink can help us a ton against aggressive strategies, keeping our life total high is really important in those matchups, I also love Angelic Gift the flying is very nice and can allow us to go over the top of our opponents and more importantly we get some cheap card draw which is always nice in mono-white.
Strengths of the Deck:
We have a good amount of protection for our Voltron creatures, allowing us to make combat easier and protect our Voltron creatures from opponents’ removal.
Teyo’s ability is quite relevant against a lot of decks, being untargetable can be very strong.
We can have a rough matchup against aggressive decks because we often don’t have a strong board presence in the game.
Outside of Generous Gift we don’t really have any removal in the deck.
We do have some sources but drawing cards can be a problem in this deck.

Conclusion:
Thanks so much for reading to the end! I hope you all enjoyed this deck as much as I did; when first building this deck, I was skeptical about how relevant the Hexproof provided by Teyo was; after testing, it was decently relevant and helped a ton throughout the games I played. Teyo is a cool deck we are capable of dishing out a decent amount of damage and putting a lot of pressure on our opponents. In a format with so many spells that target players, Teyo feels like a very good commander to be on. Stay tuned and TAP IN!
