The Tenth Doctor and Clara Oswald combine forces to make a really sweet deck allowing us to cast 10 and 12 mana permanents in 3 turns! Expect a big target on your back when you throw this down at the table! Even though you may receive flack for it, this deck is very strong and can very easily hold its own, get in the time machine and we can even do it twice, there is a big eldrazi or some kind of infected colossus coming near you! Without further adieu lets get it!

Why The Tenth Doctor / Clara Oswald?

The Tenth Doctor is an absolute powerhouse of a commander, being able to attack and get a card suspended and then being able to time-travel three times lets us instantly cast a huge creature! While we cannot always do it on the same turn being able to have the looming threat of huge permanents is an invaluable effect!

We use Clara to give the deck white and make it Jeskai, in testing I experimented with Temur and Grixis builds of the deck but I found that Jeskai was the best option. Clara allows us to get double attack triggers on The Tenth Doctors ability and is extremely strong, Clara is an absolute asset to the deck!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck! As well as highlighting some of my favorite cards in the deck!

Creatures:

We dont have a ton of early game creatures as we tend to spend our early turns racing to cast our commanders. We make up for that by having our late-game absolutely ridiculous and it gets even better when we cast them for nearly free! Some of the biggest creature bombs in the deck include Emrakul, the Promised End, Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre and Blightsteel Colossus if any one of these come down you can end the game pretty quickly! We are in white so we need to take advantage of that as well with cards like Avacyn, Angel of Hope. Jhoira of the Ghitu is a really sweet card and since we time-travel and remove counters a ton we can cast big permanents much quicker than their mana cost would indicate!

Rift Elemental is a really cool card that incentivizes us to remove time counters from our permanents! Time Beetle is another small creature that allows us to remove a bunch more counters and get our key permanents down early! Since we suspend an absolute ton of cards being able to use cards like Wild-Magic Sorcerer can get us a ton of value! Shivan Sand-Mage is a decent blocker / attacker and can remove more counters for us!

Instants:

We are in Jeskai so counterspells like Arcane Denial and Mana Drain are an absolute must and are nothing more than strong ways to stop our opponents! We also have a bunch of cards that help with adding / removing time counters like Clockspinning, Dust of Moments and Fury Charm. Since The Tenth Doctor puts three time counters on the non-lands we exile being able to remove 2 of them can make a huge bomb come down much quicker than your opponents are prepared for. Reverse the Polarity is a really cool card that we can use to swing for the win, perfect for our Blightsteel Colossus!

Sorceries:

All of History, All at Once is a broken card that we can exploit even if we only time-travel 2 or 3 times, just an absolute bomb of a card for our deck! We of course have some strong suspend cards like Ancestral Vision and Inevitable Betrayal which are really strong even if we let them tick down turn by turn but get really crazy when we start time-traveling. Rousing Refrain is the perfect card for our deck since it can make activating The Tenth Doctors ability really easy, and it keeps coming back! Wibbly-wobbly, Timey-wimey is another strong card that is pure upside a cantrip with a time travel is busted for us!

Artifacts:

Our artifact package mostly consists of mana rock like the talisman package in Jeskai colors which are really strong pieces of mana fixing, we also have Sol Ring and Arcane Signet as well as Chromatic Lantern are really strong pieces of mana fixing! Sensei's Divining Top is really good when setting up for an attack since we can use The Tenth Doctors ability to set up a huge permanent to come down soon! Rotating Fireplace is another really cool card that we can use to time travel a bunch and get a ton of mana just a win-win card for the deck!

Enchantments:

We are a blue deck so Mystic Remora and Rhystic Study are an absolute must for the deck and can help us draw an absolute ton of cards! Paradox Haze is a ridiculous card in our deck since we get 2 upkeeps which means we get to remove two time counters from our suspended permanents! The Parting of the Ways is a pretty broken saga allowing us to suspend up to 5 cards, time travel twice and destroy some artifacts an absolute bomb in our deck!

Land Base:

We have a bunch of dual lands and fetch lands and basically just cards that allow the Jeskai land base to establish its colors early and get as many lands as we possibly can out and have the flexibility to have all of our colors out! We have Trenzalore Clocktower is a card that we can easily tick up the counters through the land itself and cards and easily get the draw 7 perfect for a reset! Raugrin Triome is a great land since it has all of our colors and we can cycle it if needed for the card!

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Cast huge permanents early
  • Decent amount of interaction
  • Decent amount of card draw

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Deck is much weaker without The Tenth Doctor out
  • Weak to discard / hand hate
  • Can be slow to rebuild after a board wipe

Deck Stats:

Sample Hands:

Main Win Conditions:

There are no infinite combos or loops in the deck, we are looking to abuse The Tenth Doctors ability as well as double-triggering it with Clara to cast huge creatures like Blightsteel Colossus and Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre just to point out a couple huge ones, we often start a little slow but can manipulate our later turns with suspend and time-traveling!

Conclusion:

The Tenth Doctor and Clara Oswald are a nasty combo and make up a really fun Jeskai midrange strategy with huge potential and huge creatures coming to a board near you! This deck is an absolute blast and I have been having a ton of fun with the deck! Thanks for reading to the end and thank you so much for all of your support!
