Why Trelasarra, Moon Dancer?

The main reason we chose Trelassara is that she can become a great attacker or blocker when we gain life and we can set up the next draw! In testing I was able to scry on average like 3 – 5 times a turn! Trelassara can come down early and gain a great advantage from something we do pretty much every turn of the game. Whether we go for the commander damage kill or just normal combat Trelassara is the real deal and a super sweet leader for our deck!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck! For explanations of the combos please refer to the “Main Win Conditions” section below!

Creatures:

We have some small lifegain creatures that are great like Soul Warden, Essence Warden, Suture Priest and Soul's Attendant. Which are all great ways to gain life on every turn and consistently and constantly trigger Trelassara.

Dawnbringer Cleric is a really cool card that provides us a lot of options depending on the situation! Whether we gain life, destroy an enchantment or exile a card in the graveyard this card can just be really strong no matter what we choose! Jaddi Offshoot and Kazandu Nectarpot which are both great ways to gain some life when we play lands!

We also have some big body creatures who can be great at gaining life and helping to end the game like Entourage of Trest which not only gives us the monarch but can be an amazing blocker. Eagles of the North is a great one turn anthem effect that can be great for winning in a tough combat situation! Flourishing Hunter is a big body with a bunch of life gain attached to its ETB!

Instants:

Feed the Clan is a card you don’t see often, but it is very good in our deck. Nature's Claim is a great hate spell for artifacts and enchantments and gains us life, the best of both worlds! Respite is a great way to fog our opponents and get some life out of the deal! Crib Swap, Generous Gift are both great ways to destroy and exile some permanents! Your Temple Is Under Attack is a great way to either protect our creatures or draw two cards, while it is a draw back to have our opponents draw to it really doesn’t matter to us!

Sorceries:

Terashi's Grasp is one of the best sorceries in our deck since we get to destroy an artifact or enchantment and gain some life. Spectral Reserves is a great way to gain some life and get some extra blockers / attackers out of the deal! Lead the Stampede is a great way to filter through the deck and grab our best creatures or combo pieces!

Artifacts:

Our artifact package is mostly mana consiting of cards like Arcane Signet, Selesnya Signet and Bonder's Ornament. Not a whole lot to say here just some extra mana, the only interesting artifact is Campfire which is a great lifegain source and a great way to grab Trelasarra if she keeps getting killed!

Enchantments:

Ajani's Mantra is a really cool enchantment that allows us to guaranteed trigger Trelassara every single upkeep and can be great to scry right before the draw! We are in Selesyna so you know we absolutely had to include Armadillo Cloak which can be great on really any creature but especially good on Trelasarra.

We also have a bunch of cards to deal with opponents permanents like Faith's Fetters, Journey to Nowhere and Chains of Custody just to name a few. Faiths Fetters is especially good since we get some life!

Land Base:

As is very common in pauper EDH decks the land base is pretty simple, and of course we are packing the cycling lands that are in our colors because we hate getting flooded and want to avoid it at all costs! Botanical Plaza is another cool card that lets us draw a card if we are in the mid-late game and don’t need the mana anymore! Other than that, our land base is pretty simple and what you would expect out of a Selesyna deck!

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Deck does not need commander to function
  • Easy to overwhelm board
  • Strong against aggressive decks

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Not a ton of card draw
  • Weak to creature hate
  • Not great against control strategies

Main Win Conditions:

We have a few infinite combos all of them revolve around the same card which is Ivy Lane Denizen with the right cards like Soul Warden and Essence Warden on the field we can get infinite creatures and life! Below are the main combos explained! While these combos are not game winning on their own we can surely set up a win with infinite life or creatures!

Ivy Lane Denizen + Devoted Druid + Presence of Gond

Requires:

All permanents on the battlefield. Presence of Gond attached to Devoted Druid. Devoted Druid does not have summoning sickness.

Steps:

  1. Activate Devoted Druid by tapping it, creating a 1/1 Elf Warrior creature token.
  2. The Elf Warrior enters the battlefield, triggering Ivy Lane Denizen, putting a +1/+1 counter on Devoted Druid.
  3. Activate Devoted Druid’s second ability by putting a -1/-1 counter on it, untapping it.
  4. Repeat.

Results:

Infinite creature tokens. Infinite ETB.

Ivy Lane Denizen + Aerie Ouphes

Requires:

All permanents on the battlefield. Aeries Ouphes does not have a -1/-1 counter on it. A creature with flying is on the battlefield.

Steps:

  1. Activate Aerie Ouphes by sacrificing it, targeting any creature with flying.
  2. Aerie Ouphes’ persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
  3. Aerie Ouphes enters the battlefield, triggering Ivy Lane Denizen, putting a +1/+1 counter on Aerie Ouphes.
  4. The +1/+1 counter and -1/-1 counter are removed as a state-based action.
  5. Repeat any number of times.
  6. Resolve all Aerie Ouphes abilities, dealing an arbitrarily high amount of damage to any number of flying creatures.

Results:

Infinite ETB. Infinite LTB. Infinite death triggers. Infinite sacrifice triggers.

Ivy Lane Denizen + Barrenton Medic + Presence of Gond

Requires:

All permanents on the battlefield. Presence of Gond attached to Barrenton Medic. Barrenton Medic does not have summoning sickness.

Steps:

  1. Activate Barrenton Medic by tapping it, creating a 1/1 Elf Warrior creature token.
  2. The Elf Warrior enters the battlefield, triggering Ivy Lane Denizen, putting a +1/+1 counter on Barrenton Medic.
  3. Activate Barrenton Medic’s second ability by putting a -1/-1 counter on it, untapping it.
  4. Repeat.

Results:

Infinite creature tokens. Infinite ETB.

Conclusion:

In conclusion Trelassara is a really fun and really cool Selesyna commander who is great at gaining life and scrying through the deck. Trelassara is the commander of our deck, but our deck is so much more, we are super strong against aggressive strategies since we gain a ton of life and we have a very powerful ground game combined with some combo potential.
