5 Helpful Upgrades:

These are in no particular order but are helpful cards that would be strong inclusions in the deck but were cut for budget reasons!

Why Uril, The Miststalker?

Uril is the main focus and absolutely a key in the deck, while we do have some alternative options we typically load up Uril with as many auras as we can and swing for the fences! Uril is very much the focal point of our deck and the deck is not the same without them on the field!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck! As well as highlighting some of my favorite cards in the deck!

Creatures:

Elvish Mystic, Avacyn's Pilgrim and Druid of the Anima which is a little bit of ramp that is a great place to start for the deck! My favorite creature in the deck is Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar which is a great way to hurt all of our opponents when we connect with Uril! Reyav, Master Smith is a great way to make Uril even better! Nomad Mythmaker is a really cool card that can be great if we were forced to discard or we had a bunch of enchantments fall off when Uril dies! Ellivere of the Wild Court is a huge addition for the deck since we can basically make a second copy of Ethereal Armor and attach it to Uril! Satyr Enchanter and Tanglespan Lookout are the main draw engines for our deck!

Instants:

We of course have expected removal spells for Naya like Swords to Plowshares, Nature's Claim and Generous Gift which are all strong removal spells which can deal with a variety of what our opponents try to throw at us! Faith's Reward is a really strong card when Uril gets killed since we can instantly rebuild, almost always worth holding this up! While we have a lot of cards that give double strike to Uril cards like Temur Battle Rage are never really bad since we can easily kill an opponent after casting battle rage.

Sorceries:

We are a Naya deck so Cultivate and Kodama's Reach are pretty much auto-include ramp spells for us! Open the Vaults and Unfinished Business are both really good pieces of recursion for the deck! Three Dreams is a really strong tutor that allows us to grab our three best auras! Winds of Rath is a really strong card since it keeps Uril and against most decks can be a huge board clear!

Artifacts:

Sol Ring, Chromatic Lantern, Arcane Signet are all strong rocks for the deck, Chromatic Lantern is the best since it provides mana fixing for the deck! Mage Slayer is a crazy equipment that does an absolute ton of damage! Holy Avenger is a cheap equipment that gives double strike and often can give us a free aura cast a real win-win. Helm of the Gods is a another card that can make Uril even bigger!

Enchantments:

The moment you have all been waiting for! Our enchantment package is smaller than most would think but since Uril gets an Ancestral Mask level buff for each aura we can have more supporting cards and less enchantments! Some of the best enchantments in our deck is All That Glitters, Armadillo Cloak and Runes of the Deus all of these are absolute powerhouses and put our opponents on a clock when they come out! One of our best protection enchantment is Shield of the Oversoul! Sphere of Safety is a great way to make it nearly impossible to attack us! Well not actually impossible but when opponents are paying 4-5 mana for one creature to attack we can make us not look like the best target for an attack!

Land Base:

We have a landbase that you would absolutely expect for a budget deck, no fetches here! We do have the cycling lands as well as a bunch of duals for Naya! Not a whole lot to say here are main focus is to speedrun getting Uril out onto the field.

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Commander damage kills come very easily
  • A lot of ways to protect our Auras
  • Uril can kill with just a few enchantments on them

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Not a ton of card draw
  • Very glass-cannon style of deck
  • Weak to aggressive strategies or really any deck that overwhelms the board with creatures

Deck Stats:

Sample Hands:

Main Win Conditions:

We have no infinite combos or loops in the deck, the main way we win the game is through commander damage and attacking through Uril, the Miststalker as an altenrative we can really use any creature but cards like Kor Spiritdancer as a backup creature to load up with auras and swing for the fences, we swing a lot but there are a lot of turns where we hold back and do not swing as we load up a creature!

Conclusion:

In conclusion Uril is a really awesome and fun deck to pilot, this really brings me back to 2014 when I first encountered an Uril player! Its a real blast from the past for me and still a ton of fun! Uril is a perfect budget commander and is a really good time for anyone who enjoys the voltron playstyle! Thanks for reading to the end and for all of the support!
