Auntie Blyte, Bad Influence Affliction Brewed EDH

“I got bloodstains on my affliction”

Art:Auntie Blyte, Bad Influence by Tatiana Kirgetova

Auntie Blyte is a super sweet mono-red commander that I have been calling affliction. Mostly due to the fact that we have a ton of ways to damage ourselves and get counters as well as a bunch of combo wins. This deck is as mono-red as they come, with a ton of chaotic and damage dealing effects. This deck has been described as a volcano going off and I believe that moniker fits very well! Without further adieu lets get it!

Why Auntie Blyte, Bad Influence?

Auntie Blyte is the leader of our deck and has an absolutely huge part in it, she is an easy to cast and efficient creature that allows us to be a self-afflicting deck and turn that damage into power for us! Auntie Blyte is just a really sweet creature whether you are using her to kill commanders or other problematic creatures or using her to deal direct damage to your opponents. Auntie Blyte is the real deal and just a really powerful commander!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck! For explanations of the combos please refer to the “Main Win Conditions” section below!

Creatures:

Our creature package focuses mostly on triggers that can actively trigger Auntie Blyte like Spear Spewer, Cemetery Gatekeeper and Zo-Zu the Punisher all of these cards damage our opponents and ourselves, damaging our opponents is great for our overall goal of winning the game and damaging ourselves we can easily make Auntie Blyte huge!

One of the coolest creatures in our deck is Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar who allows us to deal damage to all of our opponents which is a really effective way to end games very quickly! Another card that falls under the game-ender tier in our deck is Solphim, Mayhem Dominus Solphim pretty much makes our deck better in every way so almost all of our wincons / damage sources are noncombat damage! Our last big damage dealer Torbran, Thane of Red Fell which is a great card to ake all of our damage just a little bit more!

Since we have a lot of artifact ramp, one of the best creatures in our deck is Platinum Emperion since we afflict ourselves with a ton of damage as the main point of the deck and Emperion allows us to get all of the counters in Auntie Blyte and not take the life hit!

Instants:

Our instant package is considerably smaller then our sorcery package but we have a lot of impactful cards! Big Score is a card we can cast pretty early and get some cards and some mana which is quite valuable being in Mono-Red. Thrill of Possibility is another great card that gives us more card draw! Another cool instant in our deck is Price of Progress is not super good against a ton of decks but can be a great way to deal some more damage.

Two other sweet instants are Chaos Warp and Arcbond. Chaos Warp is a great piece of single-target removal that can sometimes be bad for us, but since we are in mono-red we take what we can get. Arcbond is typically used as a combo piece, we can also use it if needed to deal some direct damage to finish an opponent off!

Sorceries:

Our sorcery package is full of some big damage spell like Earthquake. Breath of Darigaaz is a cool card that when kicked can act as a way to trigger Auntie burn out our opponents and deal some damage to the non-flyers on the board! Browbeat is another really cool card that forces our opponents to take damage or give us cards, either works for us!

We don’t have a ton of ways to deal with noncreature permanents but Vandalblast sure does help with that, this card is pretty strong against really any deck but shines against artifact based strategies! Jeska's Will is a really great card since we can effectively use it as card draw or a very big ramp spell! The last card I want to highlight in the deck is Disrupt Decorum which is a great chaotic way to stop opponents from attacking us!

Artifacts:

We have a pretty large artifact ramp package that has Mana Crypt, Mana Vault,Fire Diamond, Arcane Signet and Sol Ring since we don’t have green artifact ramp is the best way for us to get ahead on mana. Not too much to say about these just good cards!

Since Auntie Blyte can gain so many counters, we absolutely had to include The Ozolith which is a great way to store counters if Auntie Blyte gets targeted and killed which happens pretty often as many people are not fans of her! Ruby Medallion is another great way to reduce costs and help us cast more!

We also have a bunch of artifacts / equipment’s that protect Auntie Blyte like Mithril Coat, Darksteel Plate,Resurrection Orb. All of these cards are great since they allow us to protect Auntie Blyte and any card that gives her lifelink is great since it effectively nullifies the self damage we have been taking! Shadowspear is another great equipment that lets us go on the offensive and gain some life! Grafted Exoskeleton is the nastiest equipment in our deck since we only need 10 counters on Auntie Blyte to kill an opponent!

Enchantments:

Our enchantment package is full of some pretty mean cards like Blood Moon and Price of Glory both of which attack the landbase, which will probably not make you the most popular player!

We also have a bunch of ways to double or even triple damage, the best of those being Fiery Emancipation, Furnace of Rath and City on Fire. If any one of these cards hits the field your opponents are in trouble! These cards can help to end the game with relative ease very quickly!

Land Base:

Our land base mostly consists of mountains but we do have some pretty sweet nonbasics, the most interesting nonbasics in our deck are City of Brass, Grand Coliseum and Barbarian Ring we use these cards entirely to trigger Auntie Blyte and get some extra counters from the damage!

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is just a great land since we almost always have really devotion to red. Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle is a great way to passively do damage to our opponents throughout the game! We also have Strip Mine mostly so we can be on theme for mono-red and sometimes there are lands worth destroying! Witch's Clinic is another way to give Auntie Blyte lifelink.

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Combo wins can happen very easily
  • Easy to control the board with various AOE spells
  • Passively doing damage allows us to get very easy kills

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Deck is weaker without our lifelink artifacts, since against aggressive strategies we can sometimes just die
  • Not a ton of card draw
  • Weak to artifact and enchantment hate
