Kotori, Pilot Prodigy Vehicles $40 Budget EDH

Skrrt, Skrrt, Skrrt in my Murderride

Art:Kotori, Pilot Prodigy by Aaron J Riley

Kotori is a cool Azorius commander that makes even the biggest vehicles be able to be crewed by only 2! Becasue of this we can easily cast and crew pretty big vehicles and quickly start putting our opponents on a clock! Kotori being blue white also ties in really to the playstyle since there are many ways to recur artifacts and protect them! This deck is a ton of fun to play and makes for a great budget deck!

5 Helpful Upgrades:

Why Kotori, Pilot Prodigy?

The main reason that we chose Kotori is how well she interacts with vehicles. Kotori gives all of our vehicles crew 2 which can be great for some of our big vehicles that have high crew cost, this basically makes it so we can crew a ton of vehicles in a turn and have big swinging attacks. Kotori’s second ability to give a artifact creature vigilance and lifelink can help a ton, especially when we are playing against more aggressive strategies that we need extra life points against. Kotori is an amazing commander for this deck and is just an all-around easy to cast positive ability commander!

Deck Overview:

This section contains information about cards in the deck and how they function within the deck!

Creatures:

Our creature package mostly focuses on ways to generate value for our vehicles and from our vehicles! Some of the best value generators include Sram, Senior Edificer which is a great way to draw a bunch of cards! Another value generator is Jhoira's Familiar and Etherium Sculptor which make all of our artifacts cheaper and they can both come down really early!

Deadeye Quartermaster is a great card while it may be a little expensive it is a great tutor for any vehicle that we want! Indomitable Archangel is a super sweet card that we can easily trigger and protect all of our artifacts, and before anyone asks we can still activate our vehicles even when they have shroud!

One of the coolest creatures in our deck is Cataclysmic Gearhulk which is pretty much a board wipe and a great card for when we fall behind from our opponents! Ironsoul Enforcer is a sweet card that we can use pretty frequently to recur an artifact, just a great card for the deck! Thought Monitor is a great creature that can essentially Mulldrifter when it enters the field, it is very easy to cast in our deck!

We also have some creatures that care about vehicles like Aeronaut Admiral which gives all of our vehicles flying. We also have Bronze Guardian which is a great way for us to protect our vehicles from any single target removal or combat tricks that target!

Instants:

One of the coolest instants in our deck is Armed and Armored which we dont get any value off of the second part of the spell but we are able to make all of our vehicles creatures until end of turn. This can be great whether we use it in an offensive or defensive manner!

Stoic Rebuttal and Disruption Protocol are both cool counterspells that have benefits and are cheaper if we have artifacts which we pretty much always do! Release to Memory is a great card that can be used super effectively against graveyard decks or really effective against pretty much any deck in the late game! Access Denied is a pretty expensive counterspell but can produce a lot of creatures which we can use to crew more vehicles!

Sorceries:

One of my favorite sorceries in the deck is Brilliant Restoration which is a great way to mass reanimate our artifacts and can be really effective especially after a boardwipe. Austere Command is the best boardwipe in our deck and since almost all of our vehicles arent creatures until we activate them we can dodge them. Time Wipe is a great way to protect one of our high value creatures and completely torch the rest of the board.

Invoke Justice is a really sweet card that we can use to recur a permanent and give counters to permanents which is just an all-star of a card in this deck. Universal Surveillance is a super sweet card that with the help of our artifacts helps us draw a ton of cards.

Artifacts:

Since we have Kotori, we can easily crew huge vehicles very easily, some of the best examples of this include Consulate Dreadnought, Shorikai, Genesis Engine and Reaver Titan which all have really high crew costs and with Kotori we can get them out and crew them with relative ease.

Some of our smaller crew vehicles that have a pretty large impact include Weatherlight which is a great way to cycle through the deck. Heart of Kiran that is really efficient and also a great blocker. One of our best creature producers is actually Parhelion II which we can get out pretty early, crew with relative ease and make some creatures.

For our non-vehicle artifacts we of course have some legendary format staples in Sol Ring and Arcane Signet just for some extra mana and help us ramp into some of our bigger vehicles

Enchantments:

Our only enchantment is Thopter Spy Network while it is the only one, at least it is a very powerful one! Spy Network is not only a great way for us to draw a lot of cards it also creates a thopter every turn, creature generation and card advantage of an enchantment that only costs 2UU is very good!

Land Base:

Our land base is truly pretty simple not only because we are a two color deck but because we are a budget deck as well. The mana base mostly consists of basics but we do have some Azorius duals that can help with fixing. We typically our fine with just hitting our land drops every turn and casting 1-2 things a turn!

Strengths of the Deck:

  • Easy to recur artifacts from the graveyard
  • Kotori allows us to crew big vehicles very early
  • Very easy to draw cards and cycle through the deck

Weaknesses of the Deck:

  • Deck is noticeably weaker without Kotori
  • Weak to exile effects
  • Not a ton of ways to counter / interact

Deck Stats:

Sample Hands:

Main Win Conditions:

We don’t have any infinite combos in the deck are main wins are straight up through combat! In testing I was able to quickly amass a bunch of vehicles and with Kotori crew them with relative ease and begin the beatdown of our opponents!

Conclusion:

In conclusion Kotori is an all-star commander for vehicles who can make even the largest vehicles be super easy to crew. Her ability to give keyword abilities to a vehicle every turn can also help a ton against a variety of EDH strategies overall she is just a very good card! Kotori is a super fun deck to play, and is a great budget commander!
